Default Southern coast of Maine: recommend a beach town with shops/restaurants?

Hello! I was hoping to get some recommendations for beach towns on the southern coast of Maine (York County). We're looking for a rental that would be near the beach but also within walking distance of a town with shops, restaurants, amusements for the kids, etc. Which towns would you recommend? Old Orchard Beach? Kennebunkport? Wells? Also, what is this "trolley" that seems to be running up and down the coast that some websites refer to? Thanks in advance for all your help!

Biddeford Pool, York Beach, Wells Beach, Kittery Point, York Harbor, Ogunquit, Kennebunkport. If you're looking for honky tonk and lots of crowds, Old Orchard Beach. The trolley is a joint effort among the various beach communities to try to knit together the coastal towns. It operates only in the summer.

Thanks so much coaster, I really appreciate it! I'd found a lot of rentals in Old Orchard Beach but we definitely don't want honky tonk so thanks for that info! Will focus on the other towns. Thanks!
