ATV trails in Nov...?
So, I am deciding on which cabin to book for the ending 3 nights of our honeymoon in the first week of Novemeber. We are mostly useing our honeymoon to explore the areas we are narrowing it down to for moving up there.... but the final 3 days we are going to get a nice little cabin to sleep in, eat, relax, and just stare at a lake and mountains (looking mostly moosehead lake area for the end of the trip). But we thought it would be nice to maybe have an activity to do to break up the day like go ATV riding on the trails etc.....We'd love doing that together and both have grown up riding ATV's.
So, I just found out its hunting season all of Novemeber! So, does that totally effect the safety of the trails and no riding of ATV's? Or do hunters stay away from them? Is there certain places to ride trails that would be better than others? I have to book something soon so really glad I found this out! LOL
Thanks for any help you can give!

99.99% of the time you will be safe in the woods during hunting season. Remember to wear the safety orange and make some noise. The deaths and injuries are nowhere near the numbers that they were in the bad old days.

There is no hunting on Sunday in Maine. Wear your orange vests anyway.
Many hunters use ATVs. I figure you must have a DeLorme Atlas by now. You can ride from Mattawamkeag to the ocean on approved ATV trails. Wifey and I put 60 miles on ours yesterday.

Yes hunters use the ATV trails. November believe it or not is one of the busiest months of the year for cabin rentals. Be sure your wife doesn't get queasy at the sight of dead deer hanging from the game pole at the cabins either. She may never forgive you if she can't take the sight. Florescent Orange clothing is a must have as previously mentioned. A hat and a vest at minimum. No white gloves or helmets either. Sunday is your best option for riding in November. It's pretty safe but you never know what nit wit is around the next corner or over the next hill with an itchy trigger finger. I'll tell you my take on it I've lived here forever and I wouldn't go riding an ATV in the woods in November with the exception of Sundays.

LOL!! That was a mixture of reassuring and scary! LOL!!!
Thats what I figure that the hunters use the trails as well! So i figure i'd hope they are careful for others that may be on the trails! And I deffintely have my DeLorme atlas! Very nice atlas! I thank all who told me to get one!
Thank you guys. At least now we know we CAN go on them if we feel like taking the chance Do any of you ride on them in Novemeber Or do you stay cleer of them? I just want to make sure I come home to my children! I just made a few calls and I think I know which cabin we may book. We don't have a clue where we are staying the first part (most) of the trip. We are going to be spur of the momment!

Thanks Maineah! I am the wife though! lol He works A LOT! So he told me to plan the whole trip and I just give him updates and we discuss options and stuff and then I plan more! We are coming up in less then 2 months as well. I'm planning that one too. I actually am fine with that stuff anyway! I grew up with farm life and have held a flashlight as a deer was gutted growing up.
Thanks all!

My Mistake my lady! You're all set....what about him?? Just kidding!
You can probably handle the "real Maine" easy enough then.
All I could picture was someone bring his new wife up to Maine to see the pristine wilderness and having them get rousted at 6:00 in the morning by a half dozen rifle shots. Then heading out to breakfast they get to pass by the game pole with the deer still steaming and a bunch of unshaven men hootin' and hollering, taking pictures, and drinking celebratory Budweisers for breakfast. It wouldn't go over well with a lot of folks!

also, consider tea pond camps. Lots of trails, from woods roads to real ATV trails, all the way to Canada.
Our club has been here several times, and we are going there again in july.

Just as an aside, 15 yrs ago that's what my wife and I did. The only thing we had booked was the first night at a B&B and from there we simply let the car take us to wherever it wanted. We still feel it was one of the best idea's we had.

Didn't want to start a new thread when I could bump an old one...but
I'm not finding a lot of dirt biking info on Maine with the exception of 'Mainedirtbikes.com' and a handful of tracks.
Am I correct in understanding that a registered dirt bike is considered an ATV in Maine, thus one can ride on any designated ATV trail or private land with permission, and this also includes plated dual sport motorcycles?
All I see on the Maine.gov site is pictures of quads and a lot of text with 'ATV this' and 'ATV that'...nothing about motorcycles. It might leave somebody not familiar with the impression that dirt biking in Maine is not an option...
And I had no idea about No Hunting on Sundays in Maine...how long has that been law, and does it apply to waterfowling, bowhunting, fishing, etc.? That seems pretty Draconian...what's the logic behind it?
