I assumed it was the theaters choice too.
I googled the theater in Caribou and presently the rates are:
Adult $5
Senior $3
Child $3

That $20 deal (if they still have it) sounds like a good deal for everyone involved.

Sounds fair enough. Now, if we knew what they charge for popcorn and drinks, we'd be all set.

That was the owners decision. I worded it slightly strange, I meant to say the Caribou Theater, not just "Caribou." That was several years ago, I don't know if they still have that in place or not. I think Vanessa and her hubby sold it a couple years ago, the new owners might have done away with that policy as soon as they took over for all I know.

They used to charge the same for a fountain drink and popcorn as any of the local convenience stores. Kept people from trying to sneak things in and they got the sale for sure because there was no advantage for people to try and get around buying concessions at the theater. All in all it was probably the most family friendly theater I have ever been to anywhere in the Country. Again, it has been years since I went to a movie there (moved away mid-late 2008) so I cannot say that the pricing is still that reasonable. I know as an individual I could go see a current hit movie for under $10 including popcorn and a drink. I could take the whole family (Wife, me, and 4 kids) spend under $40 and have everyone have their own drink and popcorn.

I havent been to the theatre in years either- I remember bringing my son-he was in jr high school, and I went to get some popcorn and a coke-the friggin coke was 4.00 and so was the popcorn, I refused to pay of course (being a cheap bastard)
I even wrote an email to hoyts theatre ceo- telling him to go f----- himself- I'll never step foot in thier theatres again...

I despise this sooo much, because it's the monopolistic, socialistic attitude (no choice at the time-so lets put the screws to them.

the ceo wrote back- and sent me a free book of movie tickets- made a good stocking stuffer
he said the 4.00 bag of popcorn in maine, is 6.00 in new york
I said the cost must be around a quarter for the kernels-he said yes, we dont look at customers as people-we see them as dollar signs,
at least he was honest

The Caribou theater changed hands and is still open.
Houlton theater (The Temple) is open but they are for sale.
Prices are the same for both ($5). And they actually do have reasonable prices for refreshments.

Bravo!! thanks for that maineguy!

if I owned a theatre- Id be pushing saturday and sunday matinee's on the cheap-many kids movies-you get a habit of "going to the movies" you will see many every week-you push patrons away-you will never see them again

Maybe walmart should open thier own movie theaters-sell thier own snacks at good rates

I hear soooooooooo many love saying they are going to walmart-because it's cheaper- but dont see a connection to many local businesses going under

so if walmart opened sam's movie theatres would we all go????????

for the cheaper snacks id go-maybe around this area,

but in northern maine-where they have treated folks decently- id be supporting the theatres
