With the number of older people (I am an older person), you would expect a large Maine industry to be hospitals, nursing homes, and outpatient clinics. As a population ages, more medical treatment is required. Maine was ranked #10 in most doctors per capital. Florida has a large number of doctors in the urban areas, but few in the rural areas.

But to have as the primary industry (healthcare) that is considerably dependent on government subsidy (Medicare, Medicaid) seems to me unwise in terms of trying to create a robust, resilient economy. Don't get me wrong - Maine is fortunate indeed to have the amount and quality of healthcare industry that we do have, and I certainly don't want it to leave the state - I do think, however, that a little diversification might be helpful.

So it modifies out long term plans.

BTW, Do you need any more eggs?
I had hoped that was what you meant. G'vt is intrusive enough, without heading into MORE attempts to regulate what you can do in the privacy of your own few acres...

Yeah, eggs are on the list of needs. I set out the carton to bring it back (one lone egg in a bowl in the fridge is all that remains after this morning's breakfast) along with another big plastic pop bottle for you. I expect to be over that way tomorrow... SHOULD have stopped yesterday on the way back from our "emergency paint run" to Bangor.

GODS I hate living out of a storage bin. SOMEWHERE I have the exterior paint for my wooden hex signs. It was here, underfoot, when it would have frozen in storage but after spring came, I carried a bunch of "do not allow to freeze" stuff that I didn't need every day back to the storage unit.... which has been organized and reorganized several times. Of course, we could not find the paint and I have an order to fill, with a deadline.

Between not having a place to settle and the cost of gas, Yeah, I am feeling the economy pinch too. No profit on THIS hex sign sale...

But it is legal to sell unpasteurized milk!?!

My guess is that unpasteurized apple juice can (and will) ferment into a tasty beverage .
