I can understand that.... sometimes it's the principal of the thing too. Here in Calais we traditionally have some of the highest gas prices in the state, due solely to the fact that we're a border town. Regardless of our price here, it's cheaper than in Canada, so those Canadians who can come over and gas up and shop. However, MANY of us in this area will drive out of town to buy gas--to Woodland or Perry. We only save a few cents, but frankly that feeling is much better than the "I'm being gouged" feeling.

Isn't it odd, that feeling that everything around us is geared toward the tourists, rather than the locals who work so hard to support the area? Houston is the same way.

Prior to our trip, I'd like to get some idea of what diesel is running right now in Maine and between here and there. Can you guys let me know what it is in YOUR state?

It's no different on the Mexican border than it is on the Canadian border. They use the distance they have to bring the gas as an excuse for raising the price. It crested above $2 a gallon yesterday. But when I went north of here this morning, it was still around $1.70 a gallon. At least the prices went down while we were traveling during the holidays.

Same here. Last week it was 1.37....today it's 1.64. I knew it would go back up. I was just hoping it wouldn't go up too much before our cross country trip!
