Limestone is closed as a base. There is a civilian DFAS agency there and they are hiring. They process payroll for the entire military. There is also a civilian contractor who overhauls HumVees. There are a couple of other small civilian firms, one of which builds blimps for advertising and border surveillance.

NAS Brunswick is about to close. There is an ANG base at Bangor that flies refuelling tankers and an Army reserve unit that flies Blackhawks.

Loring as a base has been closed for almost 14 years now. There is a very small number of Air Force personnel that work at DFAS, but they are down to just a handful. The rebuild facility is run by the Army Guard, and is almost totally civilian employees. They do mainly Humvees, but also Duce and a 1/2's, some 5 tons, even been known to turn out an armored personal carrier once in a while. They did do a few tanks, but I think that contract is over now. Not sure though because I saw a beat-up old tank come through town a couple of weeks ago on a flatbed trailer.
