Slept a little later than planned, so we got off to a late start on our drive to the
Fiber Frolic. On the way we stopped to get some cash, discovered the credit union was fresh out (well the cash machine at least...) so over to Shaws for breakfast muffins, a quart of milk and debit to get shopping $$. Detour by the gas station to check air in the tires and we were off to Windsor, ME.
Saw lots of cool stuff, critters (pix later) and I bought some cleaned fleece to learn to spin. of course this means I need to buy hand cards and no one at the event had any... so some have been ordered online.
On the way back, through China, stopped at the
China Dine-ah for lunch. Relatively new place (since last fall, the owner said, when he stopped by our table). I definitely recommend it if you are in the area. All "home cooking" and a pretty standard menu, but K's burger and fries ("hand cut" and they did not appear to have been packaged) and my BLT/chips and a side salad were good. I had a Brownie Hot Fudge Sundae (hold the whip cream) and the brownie was warm and not dried out either... good ice cream and good balance of ingredients.
They seem to have a small bar, just opened additional seating and the booths were plenty roomy for larger or older folks to maneuver. The also have some table seating.
We wandered about on the way home looking for FSBO but didn't find any. But we DID happen upon a car on fire at the Milo exit from 95. (photos will follow after supper). When we got there an officer was on the scene; it appeard the folks were out of the car, which was smoking badly and burst into flame shortly before fire crews arrived on the scene. Not sure what happened, but the car was surely totaled.
the rest of our drive home was relatively uneventful, except for the "check engine" light coming on because I had not completely secured the gas cap when I filled the car last evening. Dog was glad to see us, and surprisingly for how long we had been gone had been a GOOD pup.
Not bad for a "first day of summer" though K did get over-sunned and over heated at the fairgrounds and both of us will be glad when the sun goes down and the breezes and fan manage to cool our hot tin box sitting in the sun. THANKFULLY it usually cools off overnight here in ME, unlike NC, where we would be expecting it to stay in the 80s all night now.
