For Maineah, I just went through my mom's diary from 1958. Seems the 16th of June was on a Monday then too. We lived in Corinna then:
" This A.M. rode down to Belchers with Mary P. to the S. Sch. picnic. Awfully cold down there. This P.M. picked up house, got supper, had a nap. Wayne is working with Bill L. today."
And just another random book from 1963 Sunday, June 16th. We live in Eliot now:
" We had quite a day today. We finally left Eliot at 11:30. Got to Bryant Pond eventually and left Wayne, took the girls and Roger to Norridgewock and then went to D-F with the babies. Got there at 9:30 tonight, Sue was tired."
And one more from Fri. June 16th, 1943, she would be 17 years old living in D-F, she used to write a lot then:
"Today has been a clear day and real cold especially compared to what it has been this A.M. Got up about 8:00, did usual chores, listened to radio, helped get dinner, after dinner wiped dishes, swept, played piano, then ironed, ironed for quite a while, then went up to Starbirds. Norma and I rode down to Snows, then went up to old Reed place where Papa, John, Russel (he quit work just to work today), Bob, Colby and Lewis were getting a load of hay. Norma and I picked a few raspberries and rode down on top of the load. After supper, wiped dishes, listened to Fred Waring and at 8:00 went down to movies with Elona, Norma, Maurice, Eldric and Colby. We saw "Somewhere In France" with Constance Cummings and Freddy ? (they were English stars), it was a good movie, after movies got an ice cream, gee it's a lovely night. There is a full moon."
As some of you know, I have diaries from the mid 1930's to September 2004 when my mom passed away at EMMC in Bangor. She left them to me and my two younger brothers and two older sisters. One of my sisters has read all 67 years of them. I'm in charge of them now but need to get them all back to Dover soon. ( i know, i know, got to get them on disc )
