make wine? My daughter's in-laws have been growing grapes and making wine for decades. But then, they're very good with gardens and home preservation. The extended family comes together to work on things.

Good morning from the beautiful state of Maine to my wonderful forum family!!!!

It's been so nice being home for the last couple days. I've been hanging out with my kids and seeing some old friends in Brunswick.

I'm headed upta' the island today!

I can't wait to see my parents and my sibs, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces & nephews!

I'm just so damn happy to be here! Life is good, folks. Life is good!

Wishing you all a wonderful holiday weekend! I hope you all get to be with your familys too and enjoy each others company this weekend.

mermaid - take some nice scenic pictures while you are here. Have 'em blown up to room size (8 x 10) and plaster your bedroom or sitting room with 'em. Never mind what DH says!

It won't be exactly like being in Maine, but will sure be nicer to look at than palm trees!

Alison that's so cool about the grapes--I'd love that!

msina I admire anyone with a "green thumb" and the ability to work with plants. I just don't seem to have that at all. My parents definitely did--with flowers and veggies. I know a lot of it is learned, but I think there's also a "knack" and even a joy that people experience and I completely lack that. That being said though, Jake has a swing set/play house set up on the other side of the driveway, and that spot would be perfect for a garden... so maybe starting with something small over there when that play set comes down would be nice. Part of that too is knowing that Maine Writer is only a half an hour away and available with advice!

If we brought the big rototiller over Steve could have that spot turned over in an hour (while we geocache)! I'd bring seedlings in the spring.... You can do it. You stick a plant in good soil, water it, toss in an occasional pep talk of "grow dammit" on years like this, and pick.

Default Tomato Soup Recipe

Does anyone make tomato soup? I need a good recipe. I have a bushel of tomatoes to do something with over the weekend. In this weather, soup would be great.
