Yep, last year the pavement was torn up in Robbinston, this year, it looks as if they haven't done a thing. The road is still torn up. There is a bit of rather nice looking curbing, but I would think in a year they would have been done.

Just curious, because our favorite little store sits at the corner of 46 and Rt 9 Well, except for the little airline store down in Bedington with the old wood floors and restaurant, but they close earlier in the evening and wouldn't work if you're planning on that at night.

I was planning on getting onto rt 9 off of 395, is that the easiest way or is 1A to 46 better? I'm not exactly sure how I'm gonna go if we stop for the night in Bangor.
I'm hoping we'll get as far as Bangor, but it depends on my back and road weariness. I am assuming that we'll have no trouble finding lodging along the way. My brother and I drove to Georgia two years ago on a couple of days notice and had no trouble finding places to stay. That's a big reason we want to stay more inland - we feel it'll be easier to get a room in Bangor as opposed to some of the towns along the coast. We want to get there in good time, too, so that we can start enjoying Eastport ASAP

There are quite a few motels on Odlin Rd in Bangor off Exit 182. One of them is bound to have a vacant room.

If I was driving (look out peach is driving with the petal to the metal
......... I would take I-95 to 395 get off
( I believe it's exit 4a? to Route 9 Brewer.)
This is if your doing good time and it's not to late.
If it's getting late, and want to spend the night, I would do what mensaguy said and take the exit for the odlin Road (lots of choices of motels & hotels there.
I believe after years of being here traveling 9 is faster and smoother. Route 1 has lots to see and towns in between can keep you at a slower pace, but great if you are looking to browse your way here.
"Remember to fill up in Brewer or the next town out Eddington.
Clifton on route 9 too and is your last real gas station in the evening. The one that is half way across the route closes early~but I can't remember what time. I always thought it was 5 or something. I'll have to remember to check into it.
I recommend Brewer / or Eddington for all your gas station needs.
hehe
I sounded like a commerical for "gas station needs."
Okay... that's it for the peach travel advisor report. Back to you dano~

Gas station needs tend to be more than just gas - so that is very helpful info

I'd recommend that you take care of all your "needs" before you get out of Brewer. We usually stop at the Mobil gas/convenience store on the left side in Brewer. Gas price is usually about as low as anywhere, and I like their coffee. If I stop at all on the Airline, it is just a leg stretcher or a driver change at the rest stop near the 1/2 way mark.

yup, I'm with Peachie on the 395 to that Brewer exit to Rt 9 that I don't know the number of....and it *should* be easy to find a motel room, but we've had trouble this year with that. With the Canadian dollar being so strong many of the hotels fill up more quickly than they used to, so just be aware. Maybe you can reserve a room, and I think at some hotels if you cancel before 4pm the night of you won't be charged. This would give you a place to land if you need it, and you could call and cancel during your trip once you gauge how it's going. The hotels will let you know what their policy is regarding cancellation times
There is a new rest stop with potty now at the Airline Restaurant It's about 1/2 way....I don't know why they took out the potty at the rest area that mensaguy mentions, seems silly.

I just was cruising Google Earth and trying to figure out when to turn off Rte 9 to get to Eastport. (I did not find any Davis Rd on Google Earth.)
So I cruise along Rte 9 until I hit Baringer Rd and then 214??
Please advise...

well... if you really want to find the davis road, it's after you pass the town of Crawford into Alexander you will drive up a hill pass a yellow house and just down farther is the "Winterberry Cottage gift shop. The road before that shop is the Davis Road.
If you take that road, at the bottom of the hill there's a four way stop turn left and when that ends it's about a mile long turn right and follow that to 191. Take a left on 191.
