Good to know. We plan on looking for wooded land for that very reason. We want to have it available to us, without paying someone else, however it is good to know what is available if plans dont work the way we want.

Where is Plum Creek? I dont think I have noticed it yet.

Plum Creek is not a place. It's a development company that has bought up a ton of land around Moosehead Lake.

Not applicable to this discussion....

Another question.... do people generally list their land with a realtor or is there a local paper that would have FSBO? Anyone have an estimate what a 1500 sqft 3bd 1 bth house costs to build? (a ball park is fine I know this can vary greatly) are there experienced house movers near by? We have considred the option of getting a home from the edge of town and moving it to the land we buy. dont know if that is even possible.

It varies. I know of lots of land for sale right now that is not listed with a realtor....

There are several home builders around. I think you'd be looking at $80-90,000, but that's just a very rough guess. I am not sure what it would take to move a house. It's not often done.

What about local farms and farmers markets? We like to support local businesses as much as possible and definatly when it comes to our food.

Do you notice a big price difference with land that is listed with a realtor and land that is not? What I see online is affordable compared to here but I am not sure if it is a good deal for over there.

Anyone have a fav real estate company to work with or even agent for when the time comes?

There are at least 30 farmers in a newly formed association in Aroostook county. My friend Deb in Perham is heavily involved. I can pass along her phone number to you by DM if you'd like to talk with her. She's an excellent contact. I'm incredibly impressed by how well organized these folks are so quickly.

Get Real Get Maine lists a lot of farms in Aroostook county.

Moving houses is common here in Southern Maine. They moved three last year in Freeport off Main street to new locations. You have to pay to have the power lines taken down and restored along your route usually. It has to be less expensive than building a new house.
