Talking Just In Time For Independence Day!

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Supreme Court ruled on Thursday, for the first time in the nation's history, that individual Americans have the right to own guns for personal use, and struck down a strict gun control law in the nation's capital.......

Maine is one of 44 states, with Constitutional provisions enumerating the Individual Right to Keep and Bear Arms.

My Way News - Court rules in favor of Second Amendment gun right

Maine Constitution Article 1, Section 16 Every citizen has a right to keep and bear arms and this right shall never be questioned.

All I can say is it's about time. Finally something to celebrate!
Now if we can just find a way to get rid of 90% of the liberals in this country maybe things would be good here in the USA again!

Make no mistake, fellow Maine Citizens. This ruling is humongous! The Brady apologists are already on the news, dismissing it. Go online and read the opinions. The dissenting opinion is a slap in the face to the citizenry.

This lays down the law. You can not be denied a handgun for self defense. The Bush administration didn't even want the ruling to go as far as it did. It is still just one step down the road of taking back our rights and reining in our government.

The landmark 5-4 ruling marked the first time in nearly 70 years that the high court has addressed whether the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution protects an individual right to keep and bear arms, rather than a right tied to service in a state militia.

i think if any one would read the constitution it would be clear.but you get thoes people who want to interpet and twist it to their bennifet.guns dont kill, people do.the thing you dont hear is that more people die is the usa of stabbings than gun's.i dont hear any one wanting to ban knife's.

YAY a good ruling fro the supreme court.

"A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed"

You are SO right!
Bloomberg and the rest of the anti gun nuts will have to find something else to try and take from us now. The ramifications for this ruling are far reaching and will do much for individual freedoms across the board. It will put an end to tying up the courts with frivolous law suits against legal gun manufactrurers,it will stop in it's tracks efforts to force people to lock up guns. It will make criminals think twice before entering someone's home.
There is going to be a real good chance a criminal will be shot if he decides to break into any home now!
Self preservation and protecting one's life and the lives of family members is a very basic God given individual right . Finally the Supreme Court recognized this as a truth and voted accordingly.
The dissenters show their socialistic views and basic distrust of the American people in general by voicing dissent in this ruling. These are the people who support Obama in this election. These liberals are the root of most of the problems we face today. With the stopping of oil production in the USA, the anti nuclear power plant screaming, the stopping of refinery building, the list goes on and on.
Hopefully this is a first step to putting these people in their place once and for all and allowing this country to do what it needs to do to regain our competetitive edge and place in the world. Liberals take notice!

Moderator's Note:

While this issue will certainly impact the state of Maine, it will also impact every other state in the Union; it's a national rather than state-centered decision.

That being said, the state forums are intended for state-specific topics, so further discussion on this contentious matter should take place over in the Politics and Other Controversial Topics forum.

Thanks for everyone's cooperation.
