Lightbulb Houlton/Danforth area

Anyone have info on that area? I was there for Christmas (near Grand Lake) it was beautiful.

Do they have snow right now? What is the housing situation like? Thanks in advance for any responses.

sunny.

I like Houlton. Neat downtown, I-95 close by, VERY reasonable house prices. Grand Lake Stream is the place I dream of having a summer home.

OTOH Danforth gives me the absolute creeps. I've visited there twice in recent years, and both times I felt like I was driving into a Stephen King novel. It's the only town in Maine where, when I drove down the main street, people actually stopped and watched me drive by because they knew instantly I wasn't from around there. I've spoken with people who live in the area, and they say that the only reason the town still exists is the social welfare system of the state of Maine. Vanceboro is quite similar. A friend who worked in a nearby medical clinic said she remembers one patient from Danforth who was so glad when she lost her last teeth because she could finally get a set of dentures. She was 18 years old.
