Default Route 23 from Dexter to Guilford area

Can anyone comment about traveling Route 23 from Dexter to the Guilford area.
Looks like it would be busy in the summer months as people head up to Moosehead lake and beyond. Do you think a farm stand could work or would your vegetables rot waiting for a customer?
Also, what about winter travel? Is commuting into Newport from Guilford unreasonable? Looks like a long drive.

Many thanks for your thoughts.

My brother works in Guilford but lives in S. Dover on route 7 which is only a 15-20 minute ride for him. Route 23 should be fine but I don't believe it is too heavily traveled. Very pretty ride with some nice hills and views. They take care of the roads quite well in Maine in the winter. I don't think it would be too bad of a commute. From Guilford, about 7 miles to Dexter then another 7 miles to Corinna and then another 7 to Newport. So you're only talking around 20-25 miles. As far as a vegetable stand, no clue. I do have an uncle in Madison who has had a stand for decades. My grandfather did it before him. Good stuff in Maine. hth

Thanks 007,

I only traveled rt23 and rt7 once before and that was a few years ago so I couldn't really remember.
Now our search for our piece of Maine has us looking over towards your area and furthur away from Bangor.
Hoping we can find some kind of work to go along with the inexpensive tracts of land and old farms. If we can't find something in the next month or 2 then we will probably give up and buy something here in NH as this apt. is way to small for the 6 of us.
It looks like those routes are the most direct for folks headed up the Greenville area

You are right on the Moosehead Trail, baby. We could use a decent farm stand on that route. Stutzman's is quite a trek off the beaten path.

You could easily sell seasonal veggies, pumpkins, camp fire wood, and crafts. The bulk of the summer traffic off the Newport exit is destined for Sebec Lake or Moosehead. I think I mentioned to you before that this is a good area that is pretty central to the central Piscataquis county. There could be enough to keep you busy if you are a go-getter.

between newport and corinna, i believe there is a farmstand on the right, you will see the wide open field/crops growing, then a square wooden building next to the road,,,
north of corinna, just over the dexter line is p&l country market, on the right, has a big parking lot, with a farmers market outside,,mostly on the weekends
north of dexter you go thru a town called sangerville, then comes guilford, i've travelled this road alot,,,never had backed up traffic (unless a farm tractor was going down the road)
just up the road a bit from guilford (on the moosehead trail) is a town called abbott,,,i think this would be a good place for a farmers market,,,most of the traffic to greenville comes thru there,,,, monson is also a town, that may be prime (just a few miles north of abbott) last little "town" before greenville
when you get to dexter, be sure to turn left after the hannaford (on the right) to get to greenville
greenville has two grocery stores, indian hill market on the right as you come into town,,and the village market (at the bottom of the hill) (use to be an a&p)
