Default Train from Boston to Portland or Augusta

We're heading out to visit friends not far from Augusta next month. Thought a train from Boston might be nicer than flying but who knows, and I don't see any train routes that way. Does anyone know if there are train lines going to Portland or Augusta?
Thanks!

The "Downeaster" runs from North Station to Portland. There is no rail service to Augusta, but you can get a Greyhound from Portland to Augusta.

Not yet. You can take a train from Boston to Portland, then hop on the Downeaster, but it doesn't go through Augusta.

If plans continue, the train is going to extend up to Brunswick at first, then eventually up through Lewiston/Auburn, Augusta, and on up to Montreal. But that's still years in the future.

As noted, the Downeaster runs from North Station to Portland. One word of advice: Reserve your seats well ahead of your trip. Ridership is soaring on the Downeaster, and space is getting tight. Once in Portland, you can take the bus straight to Augusta from the same terminal where the train arrives or rent a car.
