Welcome to Maine! Enjoy the trip. Remember...when the trip seems like the trip from hell and kids are fighting and tired and the dogs want to get out and run around and you look at your spouse and wonder why the heck you ever thought this was a good idea...you will look back on this and find great stories to tell. You will talk about this trip for years to come. Look for the humor in the situation. Before you know it you will be here and settled and can enjoy the rest of the summer in this gorgeous weather we are having. Good times.

Welcome to Maine and Caribou. I lived in Caribou area for 20 years right up until 3 weeks ago. A Realtor whose family home is behind his office... Must be Leo Kieffer. In that case you will be walking distance to the best grocery store in town (Shop -N- Save) they have the best selection and generally the best price in Caribou. Don't expect the selection you are used to though. I found going into Wal-Mart in Presque Isle to be a little better price wise in the long run because you can get everything in one stop usually then. The little movie theater right downtown is actually a nice place, don't let the small size fool you, it has good sound and picture. Was totally redone a few years ago (2003 if I remember right.) DMV is located right at the end of Bennett Drive in a tiny old strip mall just past Pizza Hut going toward Limestone. Across the street is a newer strip mall (and I use that term VERY loosely here) is a very good book store called Mr. Paperback along with a killer place to get Sesame Chicken (The Jade Palace). There is also Pierre's Beauty school where you get a very decent hair cut or style for cheap because students do the cuts, but are supervised by the instructors and only those who are ready to graduate do the cuts.
Bowling ally is only candelpin bowling and it is odd at first, but quite fun. 3 balls per frame and no resetting of the pins to clear the lane between balls.
Any other information you want about Caribou let me know and I will try to answer your questions.

They are coming from a different area, candlepin will be odd if they go bowling. Can't help or change that. That is all there is in the Northern part of the state still.

Have a radio in each vehicle. They can be the FRS hand held radios or CB radios. This will make things easier. Also cell phones in each vehicle, but the radios are safer and legal in all states.
You can get a pair of FRS radios at WalMart for under $50 and a pair of inexpensive CBs can cost under $100 with antennas. I recommend the FRS radios.

So the difference between candlepin and regular bowling is that the pins don't re-set themselves? Just curious, since I've never heard of candlepin bowling before...

The main differences between candlepin bowling and the predominant ten-pin bowling style are that each player uses three balls per frame (see below), the balls are much smaller (11.43 cm, or 4.5" diameter) and do not have holes, the downed pins (known as 'wood') are not cleared away between balls during a player's turn, and the pins are thinner, and thus harder to knock down. Because of these differences, scoring points is considerably more difficult than in ten-pin bowling, and the highest officially sanctioned score ever recorded is 245 out of a possible 300 points

Just as Msina posted there are differences in the pins, and balls themselves. If I recall correctly the lanes are a tad different sized as well, but I am probably wrong . Plus it is a HOOT to bowl candlepin. A LOT harder than big balls, and whatever you do, as tempting as it may be... DON'T chuck the little balls down the lane like a softball or baseball. Heard third hand or so that it can get you in trouble .

Thank you, msina! You're very helpful, as always! I don't know if this game would be for me. I can barely knock down pins with a regular ball (unless it's bumper bowling ). It does sound like fun though!
