It better get all of 50 miles per gallon.

Once you have plunked down the premium charge for the diesel engine, and the premium charge for diesel fuel, you had better see fifty miles per gallon so that the additional cost of purchase and overall operation will equal out sometime in the first decade or two of driving.

Some modifications to turn it into a french fry-mobile could help recover the cost.

You have a point Zymer,... there are modification kits. I like the idea of WVO from a donut shop.

Our eldest son had an old Jetta for a couple years, ran it on WVO from McD's.

The 'modifications' were all external to the vehicle.

Nothing internal to the vehicle was 'modified'.

Absolutley, I think a if your just looking to save money, your still better off just buying an older cheap civic or corolla that gets 35 mpg. The extra money you spend on a hybrid or this desiel......it would take you 10 years and constant driving and constant higher fuel prices to get your money back.

But I still like the idea of these cars being introduced to the market.

Now, why can't they combine a small desiel into a hybrid??

Yes, and if it is a new vehicle, you will void the warranty. I doubt that there is much sense paying $25,000 for a VW Golf diesel and then voiding the warranty so that you can visit the donut shop.

I have a Volkswagon jetta wagon.
I do like the miles I can put on it. ~Not coughing by the gas stations I pass.

Is it true what I heard about diesl run vehicles.. that they don't last long as a regular fueled car?
