Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Maine doesn't get real tornadoes at all, what I am saying is the ones labeled differently ARE different. They can be destructive and dangerous, but the ones that are labeled Micro bursts or other didn't meet the definition of a full fledged tornado.

That's because the weather people do not know what a tornado really is! A charged sheath vortex is the same phenomenon regardless of whether it manifests itself as a dust devil, waterspout, micro burst, tornado or full fledged hurricane. Granted they vary by degrees but tell the person who just had 10 acres of trees uprooted in Northern Maine the culprit was just a freak wind and they will tell you you're nuts...and deservedly so. It's hard to lend creedence to the Fajita Tornado scale used by meterologists as a basis for tornadic activity when the meterologists themselves admit they have no idea what causes tornadoes, lightning, hurricanes,or many other weather related phenomenon.
I will listen to them when they put two and two together as the IEEE has and make the link between the sun's electrical activity and weather here on earth.

Just had one heckuva T-storm pass through these parts. My crew and I packed up and returned to the shop. Started about 3 pm. Distant rumbles of thunder; we paid no attention. A quick lightning flash; we figure it'll pass. Suddenly, a loud sharp CRACK and blinding flash at the same time - hey! We're right under it! Barely had time to pack up the truck when it started raining buckets. Did it ever pour! We must've got about 3" of rain in an hour. Streets were all flooded on the way back. Power was out at the shop; power went off twice briefly at the house, then stayed off for a good hour.

Now it's passed. Air smells better, power's back on. We needed that!

I saw that storm on the North East radar composite! It was pretty big!

There's a Tornado warning out for parts of Eastern Mass now from that same cell!

I have kids tenting in the backyard. They were still laughing around 1 am. The thunder started around 4 am and heavy rain soon after. I'm assuming they stayed dry, haven't seen them yet. "We've been planning this for a week. Rain isn't stopping us."

I haven't seen them yet this morning! The kitchen door was closed and T's bedroom door had been opened so I know they were in some time before 4:30 am. I'm DM'ing you with a pathtag question.

Power came back on in Eastport about 15 minutes ago - I don't know when it went off, sometime in the middle of the night during one of those torrential thunderstorms. I called Bangor Hydro about 8 AM and they said that power was off to 115,000 customers from Bangor, north and east. They hope to have power restored to everyone by this evening. Now I have to go reset all the clocks.

They've run eight warnings in the past hour.

Eight.

This is absurd.

Yes, Maine Writer, I know that there are far worse things that can happen to me than not being able to watch Sportscenter before I go to work. I could say the same about any piece of unnecessary idiocy that might drive you nuts. But really, can you not see how a whole summer of this nonsense might drive a person batty?

I say again, a functioning adult should be able top watch a weather forecast, look out of his window, hear thunder, and take appropriate steps. We simply do not need screetching warnings every ten minutes. It puts the lie to the notion that Mainers are self-sufficient.

Would it be too much to ask that the full-screen screetching warnings be replaced by a silent crawl at the bottom of the screen? Can we meet there?
