Default Looking at Brunswick, Maine area for retirement

We live in the middle of Kansas and would like some information on the Brunswick,Bath area of Maine. Why we chose this area for retirement, a few years ago the wife went to Halifax NS on business and really injoyed the area and expressed that it would be a nice place to retire. So low and behold I have became disabled and thrusted into early retirement and hey maine looks like a good place to go nice weather scenery.
If I could get information on the area would be great.

I have been all over the web researching the area and looking for houses or condos man the prices are a little bit higher than here in kansas if anyone could hook me up with a realty office that would be great.

Thanks

A quick work about Brunswick and the area. The Naval Air Station there is slated for closure which will negatively impact the area economically. My daughter lives in Brunswick right now and it has a lovely downtown area and a nice cultural atmosphere, thanks in part to Bowdoin College. Check out any Maine realtor on the web for more info!

Jayhawker,

The Brunswick and Bath area is beautiful and a great place to live.

The closing of NAS Brunswick will have some impact, but the town has lead time and enough savvy to overcome the disappointment of losing such a good, long time community partner.

My main concern for your move would be the long winters. If your disability is one that henders your mobility, getting out and about in the snow could be an issue. Cabin fever might set in!

Whatever you decide, good luck!

I lived in Brunswick for a number of years and enjoyed it very much. A short drive to the ocean and a short drive to Portland. Great place. You might check out the local newspaper online www.timesrecord.com.

I have been to the Brunswick and Bath area and think they are both lovely. Very scenic and of course...great seafood! If you're retired, don't sweat the weather too much. Stay indoors in the winter.

Go to www.realtor.com to look for houses and just google "brunswick, maine real estate"
Good luck on your search.

Default What will become of the military base?

Any word on how the base will be closed? Will it be developed for condos and a mall? Seriously. Brunswick is sleepy in ways. The college is one of the most, if not the most expensive one, to attend in the US. The town needs to conform to that calling.
