A friend of mine mentioned that ammo prices will go thru the roof if a certain presidential candidate gets in office. Has anyone heard anything about this? He said he got it from the NRA.

( I'm not trying to start this into a political debate or issue, so please don't go there )

When I was in Lincoln last week, I couldn't find any place to buy ammo except WalMart, is that the only place abound? Their stock is pretty limited.

WalMart is about the only place left. Both gun shops closed a few years ago. There is a very good gun shop in Mattawamkeag. Most serious shooters buy their ammo through mail order distributors now. There is a good one in Old Town also. I think Lincoln could use a good gun shop.

Ammo prices have been going through the roof for the last 4 years. Much of it is due to factors like the war and the skyrocketing price of commodities. (brass, steel, lead, etc.)

There is a scarcity of common police and military ammo but much of the surplus stuff can be had online. Even that has gone up substantially.

No local gun shop in Lincoln?

I'm shocked!

I buy everyday shells from The Sportsman's Guide online. He has good prices and they just ship them in the mail.

If you're looking for something unusual there are several online ammo supply houses. Just Google them.

Dick's sporting goods handles a good supply of rifle, pistol, and shot shells. Dick's usually has a good sale in September on Remington high brass shot shells. I stock up there every year. Then there is always Cabela's and LL Bean. Cabelas will ship shells LL Bean won't, though the new LL Bean Hunting store has a real good selection of shells and cartridges.

This is actually a great idea, even for those of us who do not reload, or have the equipment to do so (like me). The purchase of various powders, jackets, bullets, primers, and whatever other components needed for reloading will come in handy soon as barter material, and can be traded to a reloader in exchange for some finished ammo.

Bullets can be cast from old wheel weights. They can be lubricated with a combination of parrafin and bear grease. Cases can be resized and reused repeatedly. The most important components are powder and primers. That's what you need to stock up on.
