That sounds nice.

After taking an acre out of 'treegrowth' and paying the penalty; our current tax bill runs about $900 for 42 acres and our house.

Earlier this week I was talking to the gunsmith who opened shop across the road and a mile down from us. He has a house and a storefront building sitting on 8 acres, and he pays $300 a year.

The difference between our assessments is that my land is 'riverfrontage', while his is not [being on the other side of the road].

I think RE taxes are based on selling price? If so and depending on the area's millage rate, you will probably pay much more than $500 a year. Not so much it should deter you though.

In some states they are based on sale price.

Here it is based on the assessed value.

I would recommend that the original poster look at Kennebunk and Arundel as well as Buxton, Scarborough and Saco/Biddeford. If the husband gets work in Portland....I love Gorham and would recommend they consider that.....(I think they said they were not interested in being on the coast). I had relatives who lived in the Berwicks and I used to regularly drive from Sanford thru Alfred on the way to Biddeford.....nice drive!

Ah, I forgot to check that. When I first started researching my move on C-D......i started reading page after page...and was absolutely oblivious to the dates of the threads.....took me awhile to realize not to dig up something from the graveyard of the ghost of C-D past......There is good information back there....but it doesnt have to be re energized like Arnold Schwartznegger in the Terminator.
