Burlington is a small town. You'll be OUT with plenty of peace and quiet to do as you please. What you're looking for describes the town.

Burlington
I am new to this forum, but wanted to reply. We love Burlington! We have owned property in Burlington for 45+ years on Madagascal Lake. It was just announced that first Wind is planning on putting in a wind farm that will run from Burlington on the Rocky Dundee Ridge up to Mattawamkeag. It is called the Rollins Wind Farm Project. This project will be as close as 1/2 mile to some lakes. It is about 1 mile from Madagascal. I think there will be 23 turbines in Burlington, 7 in Lee, 7 in Winn and 19 in Lincoln. While I am very pro alternative energy (Madagascal voted out power twice), there were some very good questions raised at the public forum that were not answered. The number one issue for most was noise levels. Currently the allowable amount is 45dbl...even at night. To get an idea of this low frequency, repetitive noise, quietly repeat your name at the rate of 1X per second. Try this for 2 minutes to get the idea. Wooden homes do not have the ability to filter out this noise. Mars Hill residents attended to let people know how their wind farm has effected them. If you move to Burlington, just be aware of where you buy.

We own property on Eskutassis Lake in Burlington and am very concerned about the locations of the wind turbines. Since we live in the Augusta area, we don't get all the latest news on local issues. Can someone point us in the right direction as to who to contact about where the turbines will be installed? We get the Lincoln News and I have sent an email to First Wind, but haven't recieved any response. Is there a map of these locations online?
Thanks

Fear not, Moondogg. I have stood under those turbines. It sounds like a raven's wings flapping as they fly by. There is also a very low hum like a ski tow. If you have been on Madagasgal or Eskutassis you have likely heard a loon or raven's wing as they flew by. The turbines are quieter. Some property owners in Mars Hill campaigned against the turbines up there. You can count the actual residents who complained on both thumbs.
No, I don't work for First Wind. I just want our energy dollars to stay in the good old USA instead of going to Saudi Arabia or Hugo Chavez.

I would be more in favor of the turbines if the power were going to the local grid instead of being shipped south to Mass or farther.

Why would power be "shipped to Mass."? It's always more economical to use power as close to the point of generation as possible.
