What made this summer remarkable for Lynn and I is to finally have a dream come true and move up here.

The weather has been awesome. Not too hot, low humidity around were I live, and some pretty cool summer thunderstorms.
One of my favorite things to do has been to find a secluded spot on the coast and just watch the ocean, especially when a fog rolls in.
Other then that, went to some cool museums; most notably the Maine History Museum in Augusta and the Maritime Museum in Bath. I was unaware of the amount of items that were invented in this state. Pretty cool.
I wanted to go way up north, particularly around Mt. Katahdin, but that hasn't happened yet, primarily because I am broke and don't have the extra money to waste on the gas. I am still hoping to take a ride on the Cat sometime soon, though.

(A little off topic, but I will return to the topic)
When 9-11 happened... For us here at home,
our nights were filled with flashing planes and twinkling stars.
You could hear the gentle sounds from the distance of planes flying over head.
But again, when 9-11 happened it was an eerie night here for alot of reasons of course.
But, I recall DH and I being outside staring up into the sky and really realizing what had happened to America.
Our flashing lights and purring sounds of plans were gone.
The sky was quiet and it was a sound we were not use to. I'm assuming in the cities the noise kept things about the same in that sense (but dealing with it in another way that we might not realize. as well).
For our family, it was like crickets and frogs were no longer with us.
Maine, for me... I notice the little things and how with out it I feel so empty without them.

Thanks for all your wonderful posts!
I am really enjoying reading all the good things. When I was trapped in Texas, this chatboard was one of the main ways I stayed in touch with the Maine that held my heart. I never want to forget what brought me here. : )

"The sky was quiet and it was a sound we were not use to."
When Newfoundlanders realized that planes bound for America were landing at Gander Newfoundland in large numbers, the local people came from all over to the airport. There was over a mile of cars lined up to take Americans into their homes. Those "Newfies" took whoever was next out of the terminal; no questions asked; just because they were Americans. Then they came back for another load. No American was left standing in the terminal wondering what would happen to him. Gotta love those Newfies.

For the last month we have been able to combine our morning walks and breakfast of fresh berries, blueberries , raspberries, and serviceberries, all for the picking. There is a lull now while we wait for the blackberries to come in, but the wildflowers along the old tracks along Shackford Cove are reasonably spectacular, and we've seen whales twice this week. We were walking up by Poverty Rock one clear and beautiful night last week with Audrey the eight year old, having already run into two foxes and a raccoon, and when we got to the turn where you can see Lubec and Head Harbour passage by a half full moon, we stopped, and I said "listen to the paradise", and it was the night sounds of a calm night on the water, then a whale blew, followed by another

My middlest son and I have spent more time out to camp (in our back woods) this year. Last night, we had some of our neighbors join us around the campfire, cooked a great supper, my oldest son played guitar for a while, and then we just kind of kicked back, relaxed, and chatted. Perfect, perfect. No bugs, no rain, perfect temperatures. We woke this morning to the mist, and a total silence in the woods. I need to do that more often.
