Moving to Madawaska, jobs?
I plan to move to Madawaska in April 2009 and will be looking for work. I have spent the last 7 years as a draftsman and assistant engineer for an industrial refrigeration company. What are my prospects for finding a job in this or some related field in or around Madawaska?

a little help
Well, I used to live in presque isle and actually grew up in northern maine. It's hard to say what kinds of jobs you will find up there. I know northern maine economically speaking is not good and has not been since our air force base closed years ago. The price of oil is also not a big help. I do know however that if you google madawaska maine jobs that their job search site will come up. Where are you moving from? Do you already live in maine? If you have more questions just send me a direct message. I am now living in north dakota. We moved here a few months ago. Let me know if you need more help.

I live 31 miles southeast of Madawaska so I feel that I could give you some input on this. Living in the Nothern most areas of Maine is not for people who want to shop at big box stores and eat at fancy franchise resturants however we do have a few of them around. It all depends on what you are looking for. If you appreciate tranquility, lots of personal space, independence, recreation, clear starry night skies, harvest moons, a clear site of Aurora Borealis in January, then Northern Maine may be for you! Yes, we have cold weather and lots of snow, however I have lived here and in Augusta during mid winter and let me tell you that even if we have more snow up North the air tends to be less crisp and a much dryer plus you can bank the snow against the house for more R value! LOL!!! I have had a wonderful life here in Northern Maine for years and really enjoy outdoor motorsports as well as hiking, biking, fishing, and hunting. At this time refridgeration may be a difficult area to find a job in however Fraser Paper Company could have something for you or you could become a plumber or boiler installer you may be in a very good trade making great $$$. Good luck to you and if you are ever interested in hearing more please let me know.

flasah,
Not sure if you are interested in something a little south of Madawaska, but Katahdin Forest Products in Oakfield has had plenty of need for Draftsman. I imagine the economy has hit them some, but I have a friend whose a draftsman there and they work all the overtime they want...at least they were last winter.

I envy you flasah... Heard that the area is incredibly beautiful and that the local population are quite proud of their community.
Best of luck to you!

This is my first time posting, so I hope I've done it correctly. I am thinking of moving to Madawaska, and am wondering if anyone knows if Fraser or any other facilities are hiring unskilled labor? Machine operators, sorters, and the like. Thanks for any suggestions! I am arra13.

Have you contacted the company directly?
We are planning a move up and I have found contacting different places directly is the best thing to do. But thats just my opinion.

I think you should be able to find something in the Valley, if you don't mind driving. The mills are both operating on both sides of the border (Edmunston is the sister city to Madawaska).
If you have a decent work history you can find something. If you don't, you better start in Portland or a bigger city............more unskilled job openings there.
Do you speak French?? That helps a lot in the Valley when looking for work.
