Strangers who want 'to look around' your property?
I was on my property in Prentiss today and had some strangers who came on to my property who just wanted to look around.
Now being from New Jersey, I have issues with people who want to look around your property.
However, not being up this way very long I didn't know what to think.
When they came thru the gate with the Private Property / No Trespassing sign, my vehicle was blocked from view by some trees so they didn't know anyone was there until it was to late.
I walked over and asked if they needed help, and they said they wanted to look aroung my property. Again I was gracious and courteous and they left within a few minutes.
Is this something common in Maine?

This not common. It is common to have people ask to hunt, fish, gather balsam boughs, go mushrooming etc. I have never had anybody ask to look around.
Did you get their license plate number?

My guess is if they didn't see your vehicle, then they were scoping the property to break into it. As wonderful as maine is, I have been broken into twice in 14 years. Both times house was ransacked and many items taken. I now have security stickers, cameras, etc. that hopefully will deter future invasions.

No not common at all. I would have asked them to leave, and maybe made sure to have the type of vehicle and a license plate number. It seems as though you did do that. Good for you.

That is strange indeed. Is your property fenced?
I would have given those people a stern "Get Out" after they claimed they just wanted to look around.
Trespassing like that is a good way to find yourself on the wrong end of a firearm IMO.
