yes - i teach tech ed at south portland high school. Woodworking, architecture, cad. We will be doing the arch 2 classes on the computer new this year so I had to learn the software. Also they keep asking for more "high tech" classes, so the robotics course. The traditional wood/drawing classes are a big hit though - especially with parents who reminisce when they visit.

Hey, what's a good home user cad program nowadays. My Autocad is way out of date and on a dead computer.

Teaching
1st day of school-the smiles and excitement. I had new seventh graders today (I teach 7-12) and it was so wonderful. They were excited and I had the kind of day Teachers "dream" about. I love watching the "little" guys navigate the halls, lockers, and change classes for the first time. Tomorrow I will get my seniors and it will be much different. I will need to get them ready for a whole new game-not always an easy task. I love children on the cusp (going into 7th, 9th, and seniors) They are all about to go on a new journey and this is very exciting as an educator-and challenging as the rules are changing. To all of you teachers, students, and parents good luck in the coming "back to school" days.

Taylor's dog hasn't come back in the house since I let him out after she left on the bus. He's waiting for her to come home. I'll force him in at 2:20 pm so that he's not out when the bus comes back by at 2:30 with the elementary kids. He'll get excited when he hears it then his ears will droop when it doesn't stop. Then he'll remember that there's another bus if he just waits long enough and he'll perk up. When that bus comes it's not going to stop to drop his kid off because she has practice after school. He's been miserable all day. When 3:30 gets here and she doesn't get off that bus he'll be even worse. He hates the first day of school! He'll get settled in by the end of the week then she'll be home for three days and we'll go through this again Monday. I almost wish I could buy him a backpack and put him on the bus with her!

1st day of school and I am willing to bet Mom is a bit on edge and waiting to hear about how it went as well.
I know, this Dad does the same every year as well. This year it is all 4 of them for the first time. It is going to be SO quiet, I think I'll take a nap. Haven't had one of those in... I don't even remember when.

I know how Taylor's day is going to go. It's something like this: Mr. ______ is weird and she'll roll her eyes when she tells me about him. Mrs. S is gone and that sucks because she really likes Mrs. S and she hopes they hire another great art teacher. Her locker is not big enough. Lunch wasn't too bad but it'll go down hill from today. She'll have homework in English and geometry and that'll suck because IT'S THE FIRST DAY! The school day comes to an end at 2:30 and she'll walk to the Irving for an iced tea or stop in to see MaineMathTchr before volleyball practice from 3-5 pm. No matter what might not go quite right today, it's a great day because she has volleyball. She has a sign on the fridge that says "Tossed and turned all night. Slept through the alarm. Was late for school. Completely spaced the test. Broke up with my boyfriend. PLAYED VOLLEYEBALL. NOT A BAD DAY."

for home use - i really don't know.
we use two programs - an old version of cadkey from 1998. Not fancy, but does 2d and 3d pretty good. The new version of this is called keycreator.
We are also starting with versacad this year for architecture. School license is great - $600 for entire building. I don't know what it costs for home use.

Thanks, I've heard of versacad. I'll keep looking. I liked autocad, but there's no way that I'll pay for that kind of fee.
