Used to love going to the Windsor fair and betting on the horses. I can't remember if they had a beer drinking area like the Cumberland fair or not. Or Maybe they do and that's why I can't remember. LOL

I was just at the windsor fair the other night. was watching the demo derby. it was boring. I rather the blue berry festival fair in union, maine. Their fair is far better in some areas but windsor has some goods and alot of memories.
Other than that my lil buddies (cousin/friends about 12ish years old) had a blast and begged me for money alot. Before we left, they begged so hard for cotton candy. I wasnt paying attention, just handed them 5 $ each. When they came back..... all i see is this legs, arms and cotton candy. I mean what they got was... HUGE cotton candy ball on one tiny cone. It litterally covered my cousin's face, shoulder, and some of his chest. I mean it would do same for me.... i'm about 5'5 tall and i'm about 140lbs. I wished i had pics. But the funny thing is, when we were leaving the gate, few guys and girls mouths dropped to the ground, eyes wide open. one of the guy said 'HOLY ****IN ****! where did you get that?' Oh man it was so funny, and the girls couldnt get their eyes off these lil kids with huge cotton candy. I mean, it was the biggest, baddest mainer cotton candy that was ever made from what i have seen.
we had good time
PS: it was something like this
http://tn3-1.deviantart.com/fs11/300...rkansawyer.jpg
But NOT THAT LONG! It was fat and pretty tall. Sort of shaped like a big ball. MY cousin was holding it down on his belly maybe lower, and he could barely get pieces off frm the top. it was so funny.

Not in a cage either... most of the time (it had one there, and was locked in at night but most of the time was free in her room). We put a baby gate across the door to keep bunny in and pup out. (well-sealed hardwood floors are wonderful!)
One spring, one of her main rabbits disappeared a couple of weeks before Spring Fair. (we found the cage open, and since I had been there to carry a bale of hay into the rabbitry for her when she did chores, I KNOW she didn't leave it open by accident... the other kids in the area used to come in and see the rabbits and some had permission to feed them a carrot top or the like from time to time, so we think someone opened the door and an accident happened and they were scared to 'fess up.) She bought a replacement, but you were not supposed to show stock that had not been yours for that short a period. She took that rabbit as well as others in other categories, to the fair and explained to the superintendent what had happened. The ruling was made to allow her to show this " new " rabbit, as the officials knew both my daughter and the breeder from whom the rabbit had been bought. They cautioned her, though, not to expect a ribbon, showing a "new" rabbit that she could not have worked with "much."
BOY were they surprised! It got best of show and when some of the other parents went to object, as they were sure she had bought a show rabbit, ready-trained, the officials were united in explaining that they NEW that rabbitry... the bunnies got no particular attention as there were hundreds of them, but they did ask her to explain and she shared her "trick." Believe me, none of the other parents looked eager to buy into that style of rabbit-taming!
We mostly did cooking, sewing and the like... Several of the girls made it to state in sewing competitions but the cooking ones -- where they cook in front of the judges -- always made me very nervous.

We've raised rabbits before but only as pets. We always kept them inside. A little bunny pooh doesn't bother me. Bunny pooh is hard and sweeps up well. Sealed hardwood is the way to go. Our playroom has indoor/outdoor carpets and one corner smells a little funky. Oh well we are replacing that room next spring. They are little escape artists. We had one, Speckles, who would wait behind the mud room door until someone went outside and he would shoot right out.

We raised and showed rabbits for 17 years. Sold quite a few to 4H kids too. In fact, probably every other kid in Cumberland County 4H clubs had one of our rabbits.
My daughter had one special Dutch named Peter Pan and she could do anything with him. One of Peter's offspring was sold to a magician in the Clinton area who used the rabbit in his magic tricks.
I cannot remember how many trophies she won with him. Then she realized the real fun was showing in the Open division against Dad, and beating him.
Oh, the memories......

We went to the fair today. She won a green ribbon (every cloverbud receives one) and a 1.50. She was so excited. The look on her face was so worth driving her back and forth to all the meetings. One of the judges wrote "great flavor" on her entry form. She's already talking about what projects to enter for next year. Thanks to everyone for wishing her good luck.

Great! It's so nice when we see our children excited about things.
So what are you doing with the ribbon and entry form? Hanging them on the wall? Scrapbook? Picture frame/ shadow box type thing?

Carnie food....best in the State!
You're right Topsham fair is now the green tomato fair. It's far too early for an AG type of fair.
We missed Windsor this year (ends today I believe) but Cumberland is coming up soon!
Gotta go lose my annual $50.00 on the horse races!

If there is a place to drink beer at Windsor I never found it,
we just keep a cooler in the truck and sneak out a couple of times.
