How is Gardiner, ME
Hi!
Does anyone have any information
about Gardiner? Is it rural, small town,
tiny city etc? Is it at all scenic?
I went up to Maine and really fell in love
with it. I didn't get to see the small towns
though. I will be moving to Maine and am
wondering if anyone knows anything about
Gardiner or if anyone has any ideas on nice
and very affordable places to live (studios,
1 bedrooms etc.) I'm talking about a place
that's under 600 a month. I'm trying to make
it as a writer so have to make a lot of price
considerations! I appreciate any help you
can offer! Boy do I appreciate it!

Gardiner is a nice little town. It does have a large supermarket and other shopping places, so you dont need to go far. I image you would be able to find a nice place under 600, assuming there are places where you can rent.

I grew up in Augusta which is only probably 10 miles away. Gardiner is a nice small town. There is now a great walking/biking trail running from Augusta to Gardiner. It runs along the Kennebec River and you will sometimes even see deer. As it is a small town in Central Maine, there's not a whole lot going on in terms of night life (i.e. nothing). It has a great "commons" area that has a gazebo and has a couple old churches overlooking it. There was also a famous poet, Edwin Arlington Robinson, who lived and wrote (I believe) about the area.

I don't have any info on Gardiner, but I rent (furnished and un) studios and apts. in Lincoln for under $600, everything included: electric, internet, heat & hot water, a.c., plowing, etc...
Not much here either in the way of night life, but population 5000ish, 13 lakes, several rivers, close enough to Baxter State Park and Mt. Katahdin for a day trip, lots of wildlife, Friday evening concerts at the gazebo on the lake on Main St. during the summer...

thanks for the info
Hi,
Thanks for the information about Gardiner
and also for the information about the
apartment. I am definitely looking for something
within 45 minutes of Portland though. If anyone
has any advice as to areas that are within that
vicinity and are affordable and nice, I'd appreciate
further information. I'm actually going up next week
to check it out again, so I can look at the areas anyone
can think of to mention.
Cheers,
Norton

A $600 apartment within 45 minutes of Portland might be a challenge. (Lincoln is an entirely different experience and market, no offense meant.) You could check out Biddeford/Saco, south of Portland. If you're looking north, try the Richmond area, north of Brunswick on I-295.
What sort of writing do you do?

I know it's been a while since the last post here, but I just came across this link that I thought was related and interesting and informative:
