Maine Fall Wedding
I am looking for ideas for locations for a fall wedding in Maine. I am looking for an alternative ceremony and reception location, but I am looking for an alternative location rather than a traditional church. I also want it to be cost-efficient and don't want it to break the bank. Any ideas would be helpful.

i've been to a wedding at sunday river once, the wedding party went up on the mountain on the chairlift, it was fall the scenery was stunning,,,not sure of the expense,,,but it may not be cheap...
if it were me, id think about pemaquid point/lighthouse, you can drive right to it, and have the ocean behind you for scenery, and has plenty of parking spaces.
or
one of my fav scenic outlooks in maine, is just north of millinocket off 95...its the scenic view overlook with a great view of mt. kathadin, that could be your backdrop (this may not cost anything)
or
if its a small wedding party, you could go to the breakwater in kennebunkport (at the mouth of the kennebunk river) walk out to the end, with the ocean all around you,
(this may not cost anything also)
or
you could go to cabbage island off boothbay harbor (where they do the clambakes) a tour boat will take you right there,,,,(would have to call for a price) i was there recently, and saw an area on the island, where wedding ceremonies are conducted)

Congratulations on the upcoming celebration.
I got married outdoors in a garden and had a small reception indoors the next town over. I enjoyed being out doors on a beauiful fall day in October.
I hope that you find just what your looking for and that your day is warm and sunny.
*So for us, having the wedding in one town and the reception in another gave me and my husband time to drive down by the lake before we went to the reception
(to smooch on the dock)~like we did the first time we kissed.
then... got caught up in the moment and on our mad dash to the reception got pulled over on our way to the reception by local police.
Their gift to us was looking at me and my DH and smiling... "slower down folks.)

We just attended a wedding in Campden, they did it in the American Legion hall.
I have performed weddings in city parks, in rented halls, in backyards, in livingrooms and in 300 year old churches.
I like the ceremonies when they are done with a view toward the pictures.
Like one of my weddings, we went to a city park with a lake. A bit of land jutted out into the water, a peninsula. The far side of the lake was thick forested. The wedding was in the early morning before the fog had lifted. We went out to the tip of the peninsula, once the vows were completed. The wedding party turned slightly toward the congregation and everyone was ready for pictures. The fog was all around us and the backdrop was the trees. Without being close to the lake you could not see the water. Great pictures!
Another was at a Revolutionary War era fort on a knoll. We did the ceremony as the sunset. The photographer wanted a shot of the couple kissing as the sunset. that was nice too. The reception was at a local restaurant.
Another that I did was on the Staten Island Ferry. On the Fantail, as the ferry was passing by the statue of Liberty. That was fun. But we had a hard time getting a city clerk to issue the license, that river is a boundary between jurisdictions.
In 10 years [or more] what you have from the ceremony that is really sentimental is the wedding pictures.
Great settings and wonderful backdrops are often locations that are free.
What about renting a party boat? along the coast or up a river, either way the back drop is nice. Drop anchor and it can be a swim party as well
Good luck and may God bless you.

I'd choose somewhere in Acadia overlooking the ocean. There are many beautiful cliffs and vistas there that would be gorgeous. There is also the beautiful little beach area nestled between the cliffs.

Gorgeous photos, peachie! You sure are one beautiful bride
shellbell 1002- We once attended a great wedding north of Belfast - Searsport outdoors on the lawn of a restaurant that overlooked the ocean- gorgeous! The reception and dancing followed at the restaurant.
There are so many islands where you could have your wedding along the coast.
Or consider gorgeous Roque Bluff State Park or Wolfsneck State Park, among many other incredible places.
Geee thinking of all these ideas makes me want to renew my vows

Thanks genmom, I had a great day, no stress and for me it being my second marriage had a gathering of less then 30.
DH and I stayed in Robbinston our first night at the Brewer House B&B.
We booked ourselves in around 5:30 and (never changed) layed on the lawn until 7:30 looking up to the stars. I'll tell you it's the only way to wed, out doors that is. lol

Ohhh nice... the revolutionary war contrast sounds exciting, romantic, and memoriable.
I agree great settings and more are often locations that are free.
Everyone stood when I got married and it lasted maybe 15 mintures or so.

Thanks.... It was a great day. Oh.. I got my dress when those bridal places in New York went Bankrupt and it was sold to Mardens. So the tag said 800.00 and I got it for 100.00, plus I worked at Mardens during that time and I got another 20% off too.
I had a great, relaxing and affordable wedding. what else could anyone want. lol

Though I loved my wedding... relaxing and affordable wouldn't be the adjectives I used to describe it. Nicely done!

Congratulations shellbell! Is there a particular part of Maine you'd like?
Such a beautiful bride Peachie. We've grown the flowers, pumpkins and cornstalks for weddings in years past. If I were going to get married again it would be outdoor in the fall.
