Default Snowbirds

HELLO.....im sure there are lots of snow birds who leave maine for a period of time during the winter....i was wondering how safe properties are when people leave for perhaps months at a time.....sooner or later i will have a small camp somewhere in maine and most likely fairly remote...i know anything is possible but i would hate to see my camp stripped of all the new equipment i will be installing in it....i will probably only spend 6-9 months a year there then return to my home in south florida....
what do people normaly do in this situation
thanks as usual for all your sage comments
best
jim

Our camp was built in 1951. Other than stealing a huge tree while logging the area once, our camp has never been bothered.

You know, my grandmother always told me that the snowbirds are the birds that DON'T fly south for the winter. So how do winter tourists from Maine become known as snowbirds?

A lot of the Harpswell snowbirds rent out their properties from September - May.

One of the ladies my wife works with has five or six other houses on her street in Harpswell. She is the only year-round resident.

you simply develop a reputation as a good and helpful and thoughtful person in all your interactions around town and it goes out on the wire that you don't deserve to be tampered with. that make any sense?

Actually the term means flying away from the snow - hence the term snowbirds.

We will be heading back South about the middle of September. Our house will be in the hands of a Property Agent who will make scheduled and unscheduled walk throughs all Fall and Winter.

The house will be winterized this year due to the high oil costs.
