Default Need to find apt/house rental in Belfast area - can't find much online - help!

Hey all!

Thank goodness I found this forum. My husband and I llive in Bangor but need to move closer to Belfast for work reasons. We want to rent something - house/apt/mobile home/condo - for at least a year.

I am disabled with a nerve disorder and can't drive, so while my husband is at work I am online looking everywhere for rental ads - and am finding next to nothing.

Does anyone have ideas for searching online (or in small Belfast area papers I might not know about) or else know a rental agent or anyone who is renting? We're willing to live anywhere in Belfast up to about 10-15 minutes away from town.

Thank you so much for any input. We're needing to move this fall sometime and I'm getting really nervous.

Perplexed,

- Hinsley

Try Villagesoup.com -- they have some classifieds, and there is the MaineCoastNow site, too, with some classifieds.

Speaking of Vilagesoup, I'm off to check on-line for who was arrested lately. It's fascinating.

There is a house down the road from me on 141 on the corner of 141 and the Back Searsport Rd. I don't really know much about the place, but it looks like a big house...its got an attached 1 or 2 car garage. I guess the rent is $900 + utilities....seems a bit steep to me, but maybe fine for you...

I know someone renting an efficiency "apartment" in Belfast. It's a small room, with a bed, shower (toilet shared with other tenants out in the hall), small stove and fridge and sink. She pays $500 a month! I just about wet my pants when I heard how much that place cost.

Thanks everyone. 500 for a toilet in the hall? HA! (better than being homeless I guess?) Craigslist is great....would be REALLY nice if I were looking for something in Portland. Holy Moly there are hundreds!

I'll check under prop. managment and also open to winter rentals if necessary...

Default Apartment Rentals

Dear Hinsley,

I am currently living in Prospect, about 18 miles from Belfast and am also looking to move closer to Belfast.

Have you tried: villagesoup.com? Go there and click on Waldo County. You can scroll the classifieds, for free. You may also want to take a drive and look in Searsport, Swanville, Stockton Springs, or Brooks.....I have seen many "for Rent" signs for apartments or homes not listed in the newspapers. I looked today and found 8 great possibilities! I don't know what your needs are; I, too, am disabled with a back injury and associated neuropathy. I am also scheduled for knee surgeries in June and July. Great time for a move, huh?

I also do not know your economic position; there are many subsidized complexes in and around Belfast. Should your income qualify, rent is based on 30% of your income, I think ---- something like that. My problem is finding a place with a washer/dryer hook up and am finding that most places have coin-op facilities. As I said, the best way to find places is to take a drive and look around. I also obtained a listing of local landlords from a lady at Belfast City Hall.

Good luck to you!
