Both slogans were created by an advertising agency to help bolster the tourist industry.

The few gang members that are here are a joke (that is a good thing, I suppose), but they do exist. Most of them moved here from out of town to set up a base for moving drugs. I'll probably get put through the ringer by the regulars on here, but Maine does have a pretty large problem with drugs. Maybe not in your small coastal town, but they are here.

Portland, Maine Shadowfax, is the very southern end of Maine- the "biggest city" in Maine. I wouldn't choose to live there myself- but I would over Jacksonville or Tampa, FL!!!

Read the threads....after thread....after thread; many people 'from away' get it. However, one person's idea of Utopia is not another's. I have lived in major cities all of my life except for a stint in Kansas and my time spent here so far. A person's Utopia is a personal item and just because someone from DC or NY City or Seattle don't realize the Maine Utopia that you (and many others) realize does not mean that you are turned onto to something that they are missing out on. In their eyes, maybe it is you who does not 'get it'. Just a thought.

Honestly, I believe this, too, but many people feel the need to 'brag' about it. Maine will not be the same place in 30 or 40 years.

That was the extent of the crime reported that day. The next night while watching the news, a segment came on entitled "Good News Friday."
That was only 6 years ago and by the way, the local channel we watch, covers the news (and weather) for the entire State of Maine, not just our area. So you folks coming from the larger cities, it will definitely be a very welcome culture change.

This reminds of the the police report in The Quoddy Tides .. in 2 weeks time the only crime was that a person reported hitting a deer with their car. I can live with that!

Well, Eastport did just have a "crime spree", so to speak.... I think three (?) businesses in town were broken into Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning, and one business in Perry. They caught the guy, a 19 year old from Pleasant Point yesterday, less than 24 hours later. I don't know about any of the damage, I haven't talked with anyone, but I hope it was very minimal.

Yup, Bay City Mobil, the Wa-Co, DWs pizza shop, and tried to get into the General Store. Then headed to Newcombs in Perry and took some handguns. I think that's where they caught him; out back of Newcombs "plinking" with a stolen 22 pistol.

There was a crime wave in Gorham......sheep in the road! The police rounded them up and put them back.....but later in the day.................the sheep were back in the road. (Repeat Offenders). There was also a recent incident of a suspicious car in front of a house......the police investigated and discovered the driver had stopped to make a cell phone call.
Not to totally minimize....there is some crime....but most of what makes the police blotter makes me chuckle.

Ripped From the Headlines
This was the lead story in the Ellsworth police blotter this week.
Woman Unhappy with Her Son’s Attitude Calls Police Written by Jennifer Osborn Tuesday, January 20, 2009 ELLSWORTH — A Sedgwick woman called police Jan. 6 because she’s been unhappy with her son’s attitude. Also, he relocated a vehicle on her property.
Hancock County Sheriff’s Deputy Jeff Turcotte said he informed the woman that the sheriff’s office would not address her son’s attitude for her.

I would think that every corner of every nation has some level of 'drug' issue.
I am sure that 'they' are here too.
Reading the news I see:
Quote:
"A Bangor man reportedly flipped off the police he was eluding before resisting arrest early Saturday morning.
... a Jeep make an illegal turn at an intersection. The officers activated their blue lights and attempted to stop the vehicle. The Jeep continued driving around several side streets at a slow rate of speed and at one point the driver rolled down his window and made an offensive gesture at the pursing officers.
... After less than a mile of eluding officers, the driver finally stopped the car and exited the vehicle.
... charged with eluding a police officer, operating under the influence, operating after suspension and possession of a scheduled drug."

Last week the top story one night was that a dairy in Maine had the nation's oldest milk cow, 21 years old and still producing milk.
