Yeah here in Lincoln there was 40 incidents of burglary between July 1st and Mid-August. I still don't understand why our local police chief waited until late August to inform the town of this. But anyways I always lock my car and lock the garage.

Well I guess the bottom line is if you think it's suspicious, it probably is. It only takes a minute to call local law enforcement. Description of the vehicle/ person(s) and the direction of flight are very important. Naturally a license plate number is ideal, but not always possible. Take a moment and see what that car is doing pulling into your neighbors driveway.
For the gun enthusiasts, think about what it will cost to defend yourself in a Court of Law before you start putting rounds down range.
Comments on a public forum will definitely bite you in the butt. Don’t think some sharp defense attorney will hold back from subpoenaing the owners of this site for your pedigree.
From some of my past posts, some of you may know I’m from New Jersey. Here you CANNOT shoot anyone if they simply break into your home ( or steal your property ). YOU MUST RETREAT to the furthest part of your dwelling while announcing that you are armed.
Defense of your life, or that of another IS VERY IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER!
If you discharge your weapon, be prepared to stand before the Grand Jury and explain your actions.
In the same token, it’s better to be tried by 12 then carried by 6, and 2 can keep a secret is 1 is dead.
Are the trees changing colors yet?
When are the cops in Lincoln going to start kicking and start taking names? This crime wave thing has to come to an end.
I'm not a gambling man, but what are the odds of it being 2 or 3 white males 16 to 22 years old? Profile stops are frowned upon for people of color, but for Lincoln's problems, I'd say start checking vehicles after 11 pm with young white males.

I am an 18 year old male and I can guarantee you that the people doing this are in the 15-22 age bracket. When i went to a neighborhood watch meeting last year I asked an officer some names and he confirmed that they were on the list of possible suspects.
These are the type of kids who come to school and sleep. There is a hangout in town for the youth in a well lit parking lot. Occasionally the police will make there presence known around that area, but not enough. I've seen guys dealing dope out of there cars while down there and I wish there was a way they would get caught. Sometimes the police around here seem to "lax".

as a kid, i remember some high school hangout spots, but most of them would be on the outskirts of town (pits and quarries) not in a well lit center of town parking lot.
ive seen "kids" hang in the parking (across from mardens) in lincoln, seems like quite a wide open and public place to be doing anything illegal, but maybe im just naive.

There's spots like this in any town. Some "kids" get the feeling that they're invincible and get a little brazen... I still can't believe that small town Maine is having such a burglary problem. Hope they catch the punks in public and scare the living you know what out of the others so this doesn't happen in the future.

"It only takes a minute to call local law enforcement"
But it takes an hour plus for them to respond!

I started to type something and it hit me. There was something suspicious. I don't think they turned a light on in the house. I don't remember seeing one. There are trees between the fireplace and the neighbor's house but I don't think they're so dense we couldn't have seen a light if it had been on. This is something I'll think of next time something like this might be happening. They did get caught. They were arrested by Tuesday or Wednesday. They are grown men, one in his 40's.
It does only take a minute to call LEO but it does take a while for them to get here. "Local" does not exist in very large part of Maine, something I think suburban/urban people tend to forget.

I don't think it's going to cost a lot to tell a judge I fired into the ground or a nearby tree to scare the hell out of idiots. If someone were to be threatening my safety the story gets shorter.

Maybe, but I'm not willing to live in fear speaking my mind. It's highly unlikely that I'm going to end up in court over something like this. It's just not worth it to live my life based on the "what ifs" of a criminal.

Add that to the Thank God I Live In Maine list. Just because the law says you must do something doesn't mean you must do something.

Yes. I'm watching ash leaves fall as I type. The maples are covered in seed whirlybirds and starting to change too.

you must retreat to the furthest part of the dwelling and announce(you are armed) if someone breaks into your house? that sounds idiotic..
while on one hand, we hope we are never in this horrific scenario, and we may not even know how each of us would react, and its easy to say we'd do this or that, however, if i know there is a break in ...in my house, and kids are in the house, id never allow an intruder between me and my kids, and i've watched enough law and order, to learn, yes, they must be in your house, and if its self defense then its self defense.
i believe one of the biggest deterrents to crime, is thinking someone has a loaded gun in the house ready to shoot,,
growing up i had some rough friends, and remember one dropping by kinda late one night shaking, he was out syphoning gas, and was doing quite well til, he was syphoning gas from a car in one driveway and heard the close sounds of a rifle discharging at him,,,he ran never so scared in his life, and from that day on, he never syphoned gas again..

Unfortunately, here in Maine it may be far better to shoot at someone when you feel threatened rather than opt for the "warning shot". I have a friend right now awaiting trial because he fired a warning shot! The person who was threatening him pursued action on "reckless discharge of a firearm".... the local (and state) LEOs don't agree, but had no recourse but to arrest. The grand jury has handed down the indictment, and now we're just waiting for the trial. He's been told that he should have just shot the guy. After all he's been through with this, and with all that could possibly happen, I have to agree
