 You know..........
.. I've looked at this thread........~read what everyone else was writing .. and then closed it.
They were all giving you such helpful-informative-sane guidence.... for me, I had no idea what to say.
Your asking a few of us who would just simply say what Molly said, because we are dying to see you.
peachie's tips for the day:
(*caution may be crazy and illegal in some states including Hawaii)
 Tip ONE:
I say don't pack, just buy new when you get here and what you can't buy borrow.
Tip TWO: you should of already been in the car and buckled with the vehicle in reverse as I am typing this NOW.
I can not be "level headed" when it comes to someone I wish to met as much as you.
Forgive me for giving insane advice. I have no sane to give.
HURRRRRRy drive drive... "smokin' and the bandit style for heaven sakes.

El, if you decide to move before winter I can say from experience...your kids will love it when the snow starts falling. My two boys were outside in it every chance they could get. I think they are really going to miss it this year. It was so cute, because they had a little Maine friend who was very meticulous and precise in teaching them his snow tunneling technique! Good luck, whatever you decide.

It's amazing how much time kids spend outside here in Eastport. Buy lots of cheap gloves and mittens when you get here, and stock up on good cocoa and popcorn. In the summer they only come in when it gets really dark.

A few things that are very important - someone to take over our house payment first and foremost! The house in Eastport is just sitting there waiting for us, so that won't be an issue at all. It's not "winterized" with insulation yet, though, so that would have to be done before we could come during the winter.
Right now, we're a few thousand dollars short of "enough" to be comfortable striking across the country, so that will take a little more time to get together. DH also has to start the reciprocity process for his state licensing so he can go to work as soom as we get there. That will probably take about a month to go through once he applies. We won't be coming with life savings in the bank, so we'll have to have income asap once we get settled.
We can't really leave our furniture and belongings behind. Most of my furniture has been handed down from my grand and great-grand parents, so that's all keepsake stuff. About half of what we own is already packed and in storage - does that count for packing, M?

Oh ya, there's always that annoying money & needing a job thing. Wouldn't it be nice if that weren't an issue?

El, the way the closing of our former house went, we had 2 weeks to;
A-have scheduled surgery
b-find a house
c-pack and be out of a house that had been in the family for 30+ years.
Oh, and this was two weeks before Christmas. We too have family pets, (1 dog, 4 cats) and 2 kids, so we know what you're contemplating.
We did it! When it comes to something you want, you'll find a way. When it comes to the weather and traveling, just take your time. It's better to get here safely!
About the extra vehicle, check with local schools (colleges) and see if there is someone looking for a ride to Maine, you may get another person to pull driving duty!
We're waiting.........

I have a little wooden chest [that my kids used as a toy box.]....it was the box my grandfather made to carry all of their worldly goods that weren't on their backs or carried in their arms when they immigrated from England back in the 1920's. It wasnt big enough to hold a quilt for a king size bed.
Their desire to come to America was paramount....to everything.
When I moved from NH to California....it was a 5x8 trailor....everything else was given away or "bequeathed"; I wasnt going to let "things" own me or limit my options....since then I am that way about everything....I have been blessed and have some things that could be sold and some that would be accepted by the Art Museum, or historical society etc.....but nothing, absolutely nothing will ever hold me back.

And give me a holler when it's getting close, to tell me WHERE and WHEN to show up to help unload the truck.
I had Forest and his younger son helping me pack TONS of heavy stuff over ice and snow... I need to pass along that karma.
