McCain now looking to Maine as "the new Ohio"
McCain's fate hangs on three states - Mike Allen - Politico.com
Saw this on a political thread on here and thought it was interesting since it relates to Maine.....

I think mccain has a very good chance of winning the second district. The frist district though is too heavily influenced by the ultra-liberal southern new england. Many people consider southern maine as part of mass. I for one hope mccain does win the 2cd district.
I believe many people in the second district can relate to palin and what life might be like in alaska. The other candidates are too out of touch.

Shadowfax,
I saw the same story and thought that McCain doesn't have much of a chance here where I live....I see lots of Obama/Biden lawn signs and most of the folks I meet are pretty much progressive liberals....but I know that up in the second district there are lots of reactionary uber-conservatives who will probably vote for McCain. I am trusting in the judgement of my neighbors. Palin is pretty much a non issue, I can't see that she adds anything.

Obama is riding the wave of leftist liberal media swooning and fawning all over him and allowing him a surge in the polls. This type of media hype has done little to sway the opinion of the informed that Obama is little more than what he is in actuality, a Junior Senator with little to no experience on any issue. No one answering a poll wants to be tagged as a racist because they don't want to vote for an empty suit who happpens to be black. They nod and smile and tell all of their friends they are going to do the politically correct thing and elect him. We'll see if that holds up when people are in the privacy of the voting booth and no one with a camera is watching them vote. It's called the Bradley Effect...look it up.
As far as Sarah Palin goes she's more like most Mainers than anyone who has ever run before. She speaks from her heart and has none of the baggage involved with being a life time politician.

I'm kind of partial to men but I still thought she held her own and did a great job! Very impressive.

I am slowly catching up with politics in my new state, thanks for the info. I did not know our electoral votes could split. Kind of wish the whole thing was like that as it seems more representative.
That said, I can't help but reply Maineah. As far as I have read, the Bradley Effect can carry about a 2% swing which would only be in play if McCain goes in to election day less than 6% behind in the polls. And when did "cute" become a political asset? When watching Palin I kind of feel like all that I learned about debate in HS and college was useless and I should have taken a class in folksiness. Also, could you explain to me who "Joe Six-pack" is, DH was asking me if I thought he was. I said probably not as he doesn't drink beer and though in excellent shape doesn't lift weights but I really don't know who that is.

I don't know many "hockey moms" who fly around with a rifle shooting animals from the air.
