El,
Mowing the yard this summer in Eastport, Maine was really not so bad. The temp. was nice and no humidity like Texas and here in Florida. I found it a nice change to mow and garden ...

Aww, the lawn mowing pics didn't show up! Hey, I have mowed with a riding mower at my grandparents' house......years ago. We have a push mower for our small yard now. DH uses it well! Honestly, I just can't stand the heat. I get very sick from it, so most of my year is spent hiding indoors. I may enjoy mowing when I can breathe! I look very forward to gardening. I'm not sure if our starter home in Eastport has any space for a small garden, but my grandparents also taught me that nearly anything can be grown in a 5 gallon bucket beside the house. Some of their best tomatoes and peppers were grown that way.
I need to go back and look at all the pics of the house and lot again....

El,
I planted my herbs in with the flowers but my tomatoes and bush cucumber were in 5 gallon buckets that I sat to the side of the house to capture all day sun. It was less weeding to have them in the buckets and to give to my neighbor when we returned to Florida in August.
I have asthma and did not have to use an inhaler, take singular or a steroid all summer in Maine and even slept with the windows open. It was a very enjoyable summer. My time in Eastport was very similar to how I grew up in Tennessee... a country farm girl, rural, friendly, helpful people.
Corgis and I went to yard sales on the week-end and stopped at the farmers market in Eastport, got our picture in the Quoddy Tides. We met for lunch on Tuesdays with Peachie, Molly, Maine Writer, Star, Maine-Math, etc....I look forward to meeting you.

There are a number of Texas folks here and moving here. There were 2 couples who bought Carl Young's old house on Water a few months ago. They are musicians and did 2 house concerts while they were here. The people who bought Dimp Kinney's house across the street from us are rumored to be from Texas, but we have not seen any sign of them other than some electrical work in the spring. My 8 year old daughter is very excited about the prospect of more kids coming.

Looked on the map your literally going to drive right past our house on your way to Eastport. Stop in for some coffee and we can exchange "OMG we are out of Texas stories" We are currently renting a house right off of RT1 in Ellsworth, at least till next year we will start building our home in Surry.

That's wonderful to know! We're coming with a van load of kiddos to add to the mix!! Our kids will be 8,7 and 3 when we move. They're all so excited about the move. My girls have little suitcases on wheels.....I catch them often packing their suitcases and rolling them around the house, all dolled up in coats and snow boots, playing "moving to Maine".
They also can't wait to meet Molly's son! They talk about "Jakey" all the time and how much fun it's going to be playing in the snow and on the beach together. They have no earthly clue what geocaching is, but they want to go if Jakey will be there with Aunt M!
