Hey everyone,

When I was a kid I lived in Winter Harbor at the navel base. I have seen a lot has changed in 20 years there. Is it true the base is now part of Acadia? Also, is Winter Harbor still a small village, or has it grown a tad? Any info would be great as I have wanted to visit the area for awhile now.

I was there yesterday. I think it's probably a bit smaller than it was 20 years ago. It's still a small village, but the winters are quieter than I remember them being growing up. That being said though, I was only a visitor as a teen, and I'm only a visitor now too. I love the area, and Schoodic is one of my most favorite places in the world. I took some pictures and I'll try to get them on the photo thread soon

I was stationed at the Naval Security Group Activity, Winter Harbor, ME twice - Jan 1964 - Dec 1965 and again in 1970 - 1971. Winter Harbor is and remains my favorite place in the world (and I've been ALL over the world); it is a beautiful community with the finest local people you will ever find! We (my wife, boys and I) loved every second we were there! My wife passed away on December 31, 2009, and I've been thinking of selling my lake front home and moving back to Winter Harbor. Winter Harbor and it's people will always have a place in my heart for friendships, community, beauty and serenity!

The base and it's accompaning remote site in Corea, was closed down. I thought from reading an closure statement on the NSGA web site that the main site on Schoodic point is now being used by the state for something. The base was beautiful and always blended well with the surroundings. I was truly disappointed when the closed it and the CDAA located at Corea!
