He had boarded up the windows of his garage, and had a row of rabbit cages. They were being raised in a clean environment. They were well fed. They were cared for.

His crime?

He was urban.

The newspaper interviewed neighbors about his crime. They were shocked at his immorality. How rude they thought he was, it was rumored that he even butchered those rabbits and ate the bodies. They were calling for his imprisonment.

We had a neighbor in a City we lived in for a time, who did this same thing. Our family knew about it and a few other neighbors. We never said anything, since we all kind of thought that it was his business, how he fed his family.

In the very same City, many of the foreign citizens like fresh meat. It is well known that they remove the cabinet doors, and raise chickens within them. They also keep rabbits in the basement. A landlords nightmare, and a huge cultural difference for many.

I kind of feel like those foreign citizens, within my own town. What choice do I have?

There are so many laws to protect us from ourselves, we aren't truly free. It is as if we are all unruly children, and as long as we pay our taxes and shut up, we are allowed to live here.

Sorry I can't remember who one wrote something along the lines of this; every so often revolution is necessary, to keep society progressing

Maybe someone knows the quote I mean, and can help me out. I thought it was John Adams, but I can't remember. Birthday is coming up, sorry CRS has set in!

Aside from first turning a patch of grass onto a garden spot, mine wasn'r much work. Planted the seeds and picked the goodies. Except when the groundhogs started biting my tomatoes...yep, one bite out of each. Then I had to put up a fence.

YES, YES, YES, This is the one I meant! Thank you for reminding me! I had the Adams part right, just depends on which part of the glass I was looking through. LOL

You're darn right it does! You'll never know, NMLM, just how many of us are 100% behind you when it comes to the freedom of Mainers to determine their own destinies without interference from elite environmentalist foundations and those with the arrogance to think they know better than We The People, how the land should be used.

There are so many freedoms that we all have lost - Mainers, New Englanders, Americans. It seems that it has taken a financial crisis to wake people up. I'm not sure they are all awake yet, but they are stirring. Government has gone too far this time, and I fear (rather, I hope) that the dreaded backlash is on its way.

Congress should have listened to their constituents before passing the bailout bill. Nearly all of us were agin it.

This is why the citizenry must be allowed to arm themselves with TOW missiles, to counter those pesky A1 Abrams.

Without good training 'assault weapons' do more harm to the operator than good.

Better off using carbines and moltovs.

[quote=CoastalMaine;6502979]This is an excerpt from a distributor of a product I use in my faux finishing business. I thought it was appropo for the times. I do not buy into all the gloom and doom of the media. I believe deeply in americans and our culture. We are the BEST in the world. I do not believe we are entering a decade of decline as is being promoted in this thread. A deep recession? Yes. Feels more like the 70's than the 30's. Not that I was alive then, but if you read anything about the depression, you will see, it was worsened by the mindset of the population. I refuse to play into that mindset. I believe you'll see a visible recovery by this time next year. As soon as inventories empty out, orders will come in, business will ramp up to meet the demand and things will begin to improve - that's imho and I'm sticking with it.

Hope you're right, CM. Right now it's looking pretty gloomy around my house. My DH was just informed we have no med ins. and the co. is cutting hours. My seasonal job doesn't start back up for another 3 months. I checked the classifieds and work( that I'm qualified for) around here is scarce.
I'm gonna put some arts and crafts items on eBay, but if I miss the Xmas window there's no chance they'll be selling.
We might just have to live on savings and what few investments until we get going again...either new work or a relocation.
On top of that I was just served a summons for a fenderbender that happened 6.9 years ago that my old insurance company is assuring me they will handle. Yeah, all is grand. I just might have to poach.
