Default Our first Maine Winter Storm...

Oil to be delivered today.
Went to the store and got bread and milk...I have heard this is a necessity

What else am I missing??? What should I expect? Does anyone think the power will go out?

In Oregon because the wet weather, everytime we had a storm trees would always fall and knock out power somewhere.

Well, I guess my husband gets out of having to take me out to dinner...boy the things guys to to get out of romantic dinners.. Ok, so it would not have been that romantic with a three year old and an 11 yr old tagging along (haven't found a babysitter yet)

The power may go out, because of the winds. 25-35 mph, they're saying.

Have some sandwich stuff on hand, milk, juice, cereals, and bottled water if you have a well, and LOTS of firewood. One of the reasons I bought the house I'm in is because I have both a woodstove and a fireplace.

Do you have candles? Batteries? Just have available the things everyone should keep in stock, in case of power outages.

Even if the power does go out, it won't be for all that long. They get you back up as quickly as any of the cities I've lived in.

Make sure you have a good shovel, a long handled window brush/scraper for your car. If the power goes out, which it might, have wood for the stove, oil for the lamp, batteries for the radio. Make sure you take the time to look outside during the evening. The force of the wind, the snow blowing sideways, the tree's heavy with snow. It is magical. Enjoy your first big storm.

JMO, but I think the environmental elite should have a few of those "global warming " conventions in Maine. This week would be a good time to do so.

Chimp, the south end of Bath loses power frequently because it's on the same circuit as most of Phippsburg, so every time a branch takes out a line down there, the power goes off in south Bath. From BIW north you'll usually be fine.

A good idear, but I'm afraid they wouldn't get it.
For the places where it's been too warm--like New England--my prescription is just invite algore to do a speech and movie showing. It seems that about everywhere he shows up, they get the coldest weather of the decade the day he arrives.
God at times shows His excellent sense of humor.
