Default Where's the Birds?

Just got back from Caratunk and Bald Mountain township. the big coveys of partridge i expected were a no-show. the dog pointed up one woodcock that I almost stepped on and the only partridge we saw was strolling across Troutdale Rd. near Moxie Pond.
Does anyone know if that rd(Troutdale-Trestle) is open through winter?

We had a cold wet spring. That reduced the survival rate of partridge chicks. There are towns that didn't get much rain in the first week after the chicks hatched and that is where the birds are.

I don't remember a white truck in particular. I did see afew pulled over and gearing up with shotguns. Actually our main goal was a scouting trip for spring fishing( and a bit of nostalgia for Dave). We had a great day chasing the elusive birds but we're really pumped abot trout and salmon in the spring. What a beautiful area.

We hiked down the Haeld rd, almost to Chase's pond (Chase's Bog?). Saw lots of bear and coyote scat. Are there many places around the shore of Moxie to pitch a tent? We'd like to plan a camping/fishing trip?
