Eat a Lobster, Save a Community- Sunday in Stonington.
Just recieved this via email, and thought I would post it for anyone who might want to take a drive to Stonington, eat lots of cheap lobster AND help out my neighbors!
Hey everyone
In light of the recent economic crisis and its impact on the local lobster fishermen, the Penobscot East Resource Center is organizing the following two events:
Eat a Lobster, Save a Community
Come to our lobster take out and party with the band Pieces on the Stonington Fish Pier!
Sunday October 12th, 1pm
Lobsters cooked to go for only $3.50 each!
All proceeds will go benefit the local lobster fleet!
Lobster Community Meeting
To discuss the market conditions and how our community can respond. Come to vent and come to learn about the issues.
Tuesday October 14th, 6pm
Reach Performing Arts Center
Deer Isle-Stonington Elementary School
We JUST planned these two events at 11:00 Friday morning, so PLEASE help spread the word by reposting, get on the VHF, etc.

Can someone please give me the name of a good fishmarket in Bangor? Seems they're all mail order now. I was a bit disappointed in the last scallops I bought. Thanks

That price hasn't trickled down to us in Florida. The price of lobster was $13.50 a pound today in our local fish market. Hummm....it seems the middleman (as always) is making all the money....Lobster for us here in Florida is still a bit pricey....especially in these times.
It's sort of the opposite of gasoline. Gas comes in to the port about 20 miles from my home, yet gas here is still $3.49 while in Maine (downeast) it is only $3.09 a gallon. Prices make no sense anymore.

Wish I could go but a long ride from CT. My parents were from Deerisle and Stonington, most of my relatives are still there.
I haven't been up for a couple of years, before that it was about nine years and nothing seemes to change on the island, Thats a good thing I think. We used to really like it up there as kids we would spend the last 2-3 weeks of august there. I don't know if I could live there now though, well maybe I could but I don't think my wife could.

Maine lobster in Florida? Doubt it.
I personally would NEVER buy a lobster while down here. While they might claim it is a MAINE lobster, I have no assurance of that. I've worked in restaurants down here that advertise MAINE lobster on the menu, however I have seen the deliveries come through the back door. The boxes they are packaged/ delivered in say MA or Canada on the labels.
IMO, nothing taste the same as a lobster from MAINE. I have lobsterman friends at home that claim they can taste the difference in lobsters from different bays. I don't know about that one, but they're guys from the old days that have been doing it for 50 yrs or so. Therefore if they say it, I believe it!
