Google pet
friendly lodging in those towns and cities you think you will be staying overnight in. Some places will charge a small fee per pet, others do not. We stayed at Studio 6 in ABQ for 10 days with the two cats and no extra charge. We did not leave them loose in the room unless we were there. Kept them in their carriers and put the do not disturb sign out when away.

Most motels right off the interstate will accept pets and mom and pop places frequently do. Howard Johnson's usually do. There are so many motels that do that I don't even have check in advance - I just hit the road and always find a motel along my travel that accepts dogs - and I travel with a rottweiler, an ankle biter and a cage full of parakeets.

Finding a house rental is a different story. I allow pets in my rentals, but because of insurance issues, tell my renters that there are certain breeds or mixes they cannot have. It's not me, it's the insurance company. But having said that, I don't believe the Great Pyrenees is on any insurance company's blacklist.

Now back to motels... Lemme tell ya what is floating around in my genes....

My mom was eccentric. The older she got, the more fun she was. She REALLY suffered empty nest syndrome. She replaced her lost family with dogs and cats. She lived in Ohio and I had moved to FL. She would drive, twice a year, with her 5 dogs and 2 cats to visit with me every year. She never checked in advance for motels that accepted pets, either. But since she had a rolling zoo, she learned how to best approach the subject at motels: She would intentionally park her car anywhere but right in front of the office. Then she would pick up her oldest dog - an antique chihuahua that I remember being in the family when I was in grade school - and would walk into the motel office. So here is a grey haired little old lady carrying a grey haired chihuahua asking if the motel accepts pets. Who would say no? It worked for her every single time.

To clarify, I didn't mean trucks that are moving, I meant moving vans...
