Best of luck to you when a deer or moose runs out in front of your car, which will happen. Doesn't matter if one is going 20 mph or 60 mph.

but see Alison, he's so ignorant of all this, and he doesn't feel that it applies to him, so he won't learn. We see it time and again from people who move here with their invincibility cloaks. "It won't happen" to them. THEY know better than those who live here. It's like the mess he stirred with the whole "buying local" stuff.... some people are not teachable.

I vote we all use the good old ignore feature. My daddy taught me to never do a battle of wits with an unarmed person.

What do you do for the times you don't know they're there?

Ah yes, the "people from away" argument! Common fodder for the long-timers of this board.
Us city-folk couldn't possibly understand the dangers of driving in this state. Like they don't have deer or moose in any other state in the nation.
what mess did I stir up again? Thanks in advance for the link.

can't link to what had to be deleted
And I didn't reference all people from away, or even use those words, but if that's how you think of yourself there's nothing I can do about that.
You quoted me and couldn't even get what I said correct. Not that I'm surprised....
Not everyone who moves here is unable to adjust or learn, it's quite interesting in fact that many people who move here from other states and countries adjust well. One of the reasons for this is that they move here with an intention and desire to learn about the area, and make adjustments. A person in New York City probably doesn't drive down the road on "wildlife watch". Therefore, it may not be something they think of doing when they move to an area like Maine. It's too bad that you need to warp everything....

BTW, subdivisions in Maine are tiny. I live in one out here and its huge. Heck the town I am living in is bigger than Portland. 74,000 people here. I live outside a city with a population half the size of the whole population of Maine. We still have lots of wildlife out here. See coyotes all the time. And they're not being forced out, they still have lots and lots of room.
Back on topic, NO ONE can predict when a deer or moose or horse is going to run out in front of them. My horses got loose one time and one almost got hit because he darted out in front of a car. And he wasn't being forced out of his habitat by people putting up new roads and homes. LOL

You hope for the best...be careful, drive slow and do your best not to cream them.
If people actually read some of my comments instead of jumping all over me for having a different opinion then they would have know that I did admit that accidents do happen.
I also know alot of people drive too fast, they think they are better drivers than they really are, and maybe aren't as careful as they should be. Then they hit a deer/moose and blame the deer/moose instead of admitting they were going just a bit to fast in an area they KNOW there are deer/moose.
