That is the problem...folks expecting others to change.

If she is ia far right conservative in her views and he is a far left liberal in his views, accept them for who they are, however beknighted you feel their views are. There is something to find in common with most people. You don't need to change who you are in order to fit in. She might be interested in vegetable gardening and have alot of knowledge to impart. He might know alot about certain plants, where they grow etc.

I am a liberal married to a conservative and as the years have gone by, I have learned much from him and he from me, and neither of us have changed our political opinions - well, maybe mellowed a bit on both sides. Most of all both of us have learned to listen.

Yes, it is hard as a new person fitting in. But fitting in doesn't mean you need to give up your beliefs or values. It just means you need to listen more and find something in common with the others and something to share with your neighbors.

I live in a fairly conservative area, go to town meetings religiously. Our neighbors are starting to love us - tis been 10 years here for me - and want me to teach em to can. Which if I am smart, I will. Trying to encouirage one of em to grow veggies.

For that part of me that is interested and needs more booklearnin' I found some folks interested in medieval history in this area. And they share sources of interesting books to read in that area.
