Thanks for the suggestions everyone! I checked out downtown a little bit today and I was surprised how busy it was for a weekday in the off season. I was worried the town would be dead all winter but that's obviously not the case. Does anyone have good pub suggestions? I've seen Friendly's and Rollie's so far but I haven't been to either. I'm looking for a nice low key place with pool tables and a laid back vibe.
Also, what about coffee shops?

Not sure. I've heard Chase's has good breakfasts and I know Alexia's has great pizza.

We visited Darby's Pub on High Street, though they weren't serving dinner yet, so we didn't get to try the food. We heard it was awesome, though. When we were in, there were a few tables with people just sitting around visiting and sipping drinks. It was a very nice place with a great atmosphere.

camden has a nice, historic mainstreet also,,,be sure to check out the store on the corner called french and braun,,,its been a landmark for many yrs
lincolnville beach is just up the road, you can take the ferry to isleboro, or north-haven
and be sure to take a look at "reny's" at the renys plaza (sits back a bit from the road, its before the overpass on the left (if headed to downtown belfast from the dairy queen)
renys is a discount department store,,,,

I love Belfast. The best way to get to know it is to take many walks and participate in the many events in town. New Year's by the Bay is coming up, and now there are church suppers and fairs. You'll see posters downtown for events, or look in the papers or villagesoup.com, Waldo county.
Rollies is popular, a little raucous at night. They have good burgers. Darby's is good as a bar and restaurant, with a large varied menu. The 3 Tides has great beer they brew themselves. I tried a coffee stout tonight, wow, was that tasty. If you go down Main St towards the water, take a left after the Chamber of Commerce, the 3 Tides is behind the Lookout Pub. They have a deck overlooking the water. Weaver's, Dudley's and Chase's are good for lunch, though very different food. Chase's is vegetarian. Also the Co-op is one of the great eat-and-meet places ever, good soups, sandwiches, salads and burgers, good organic food, lots of locally raised things. The Weathervane is fine, and right on the water.
Belfast is a year-round town. There are few snowbirds. There are plenty of social events all winter. The stores are open all winter, and we have some good ones-the Good Table, Shamrock Thistle and Rose, the Green Store, and especially Coyote Moon. Guys like the Army/Navy store. Colburns is a good shoe store. Sometime in early December participating stores will have an earlybird sale where the stores open at 6 with big discounts.
We lost our best coffee shop, the Gothic. A new one is Beyond the Sea, on Main St, a nice place. For espresso and specialty coffees, Bell the Cat at Reny's plaza is great, good sandwiches too. The Co-op has good coffee and treats and a cafe to sit in.
If you xc ski, you will enjoy Moose Point State Park, the Northport Golfcourse, Tanglewood 4H Camp(Lincolnville), Camden Hills State Park and Sears Island.
My advice is to explore every place you see and you will be pleasantly surprised!

Well said
I have yet to try the Co-op. It came to town after I moved away (many years ago, I remember the drug store that was there in the 80's) But now that I am back I have been exploring Belfast again. Have you walked the new trail that starts at the Little river dam by Rt 1 and ends near the YMCA?

I'm certainly going to check out the co op. That sounds right up my alley. I have not checked out that trail. Where exactly do you get to it from? I drove by the YMCA but I didn't notice a trail.

I drove by Moose Point park and it's closed. I think it's closed for the winter. Where would you recommend xc skiing?
I am loving it so far and I'm an outdoor junkie so I need to find some out door things to do here. 1st on my list is Camden bowl and snow mobiling but I want to check out XC skiing too.
