Does anyone know costs per foot to install underground power lines in Oxford County, and how it compares to cost of installing overhead lines?

It depends on who does it. You can get a local contractor to run a ditch witch in to your building with power and phone in the same shielded wire for a third of what Central Maine Power gets.

I have underground power and phone lines, 300 foot.

We paid $300 for the trench. The price of the cable goes up every week, so my price will not help you, you will need to check for this week's price for the cable.

That will depend on your service, and what size wire you will need to use, that will greatly affect the price. You could wind up paying anywhere between $1.80-$4.25/foot on the wire which will only go up.

The total cost will also depend on whether or not the line run is long enough to require a transformer, and whether or not the utility will be expected to provide any service to the line itself. Bangor Hydro requires a duplex service be installed, which means two separate conduit channels be in place, and the service be engineered with drawings that will enable them to do their thing should a failure occur. That is a major concern to us as we will be at least 800 feet off the power line and accordingly have decided to be entirely off grid.
