But they will all have an interest in getting to work on the nations business....none of them will be motivated, as the Republicans hve the last 2 years...in blocking progress and being obstructionists. It will be time for Republicans to forget the lessons they learned with Tom Delay and Newt Gingrich and get back to the brand of Republicanism that respected the Constitution and loved America more than power.

There is more than enough work and more than enough honor to go around to those who are willing to work together to rescue America.
The only true "disaster" these last eight years is the realization that radical Muslim Fundamentalists want us erased from the planet or converted.

If the election pans out for the worst, I see it as an opportunity to rebuild the Republican Party with the new young superstars like Palin, Gindal and their like.

This election is an invitation to all who value our liberties granted by the Creator and guaranteed by the Constitution, to reorganize and fight back the Socialist onslaught that has been forced on us the last half Century.

Ronald Reagan made you feel good about yourself and your Country. The inflation and stagnation of the 70's was miserable and degrading to the common citizen.

We can start right here in Maine with the Legislature and our national representatives. People like Olympia Snow are an abomination and an insult to the Republican Brand! Chances are, she will not run this time around. The last thing we need is more feel good politicians molded in the image of Margaret Chase Smith, another dismal failure of a Maine politician, in my mind.

A new contract with America is essential. When you tell the people exactly what you stand for, they will take notice and give you a chance. The only thing stopping the socialistic ideas of the radical Dems is your vote. If you feel your wealth would be better put to use distributed to the "less fortunate," then, by all means, vote for them. Collectivist ideology has never worked when it has been tried. Free up the Capitalist system and let the free market pick up the broken pieces and reinvent them. You will never be employed by a poor person. Charity begins in the home, then church, then local, county and state, with the Federal government the last resort.

dmyankee, the economy wasn't the demoralizing thing in the 70's. It was the shame of how we fought the war and ourselves (the retarded 60's NON-revolution) over Viet Nam, leaving Viet Nam and the region in total chaos, and degrading upon their return our fine young men and women we sent there to defend her.

We as a nation don't have a history of sticking our tail between our legs and running away. We stand up and fight for what's right. The democrats destroyed our pride back then, but never our dignity. They'll have to pry that from my cold, dead fingers.

Other than that, I agree with your points.

The real crisis that we face in this country is financial. Most people don't want to think about the major financial issues facing us nor do most of the political wags that we repeatedly send to Washington and Augusta. The press drives all of these issues bascially under some cutsey rug, and it all gets boiled down to is the cost of gas cheap enough to continue to drive to the shopping center.

We have blamed Wall Street bankers for our current credit and liquidity crisis, and that blame has been enflamed by every politician who can find a microphone. But the real truth is that all of us who have begged, borrowed or otherwise tried to spend more than we had, and do so over and over and over, are completely explicitly culpable for the carnage that is ruining the home ownership dream in this country.

At the end of the day, deficit spending simply dose NOT work. You as an individual cannot go to the grocery store and buy groceries week in and out on credit. Sometime that credit will END, and those groceries will have to be paid for with real money.

So also this country. We are borrowing huge amounts of dollars as a nation to finance everything from the so-called "war" on terror to the oil that makes the gasoline that drives SUV's to the market. Sooner or later China (for instance), and perhaps a whole bunch of soverign wealth funds from oil rich middle eastern countries may want to cash in those treasuries that they have "bought" when in fact lending us money. At that point in time, the US may well be owned by someone else.

But McCain and Obama are promising tax breaks for the majority of Americans. I believe that in the end neither choice makes a tinker's damn bit of difference. I doubt that the differences in administration will make much discernable difference, certainly not in the first four years anyway.

There will be less turmoil from an Obama presidency than the Clinton one for two reasons. The first is that Hillary Clinton isn't pushing social agendas and Obama himself appears to be able to keep his pants on, during company time anyway.

I doubt that there will be much action if any from McCain. To begin with he will face a very strong and antagonistic Democratic house and likely Senate, so his continuation of the Republican method of government...mostly leave business and cronies alone...will just go along while McCain and the Dems spar with each other over non-issues. Meanwhile, Ms Palin will spend her time going to have new, very expensive cocktail dresses fitted, probably at the expense of the Republican National Committee who is hoping to keep her teeth shining brightly enough and her mouth from saying too many stupid and ill informed things so that she can be groomed to run for President in four years.
It is very true that this is America and we neve really DO anything in America unless we are presented with a real crisis. Well, I think we face several very real, and very major crises, and no one running for office is really speaking to the issues.

It is almost enough to make a cat laugh.
That's a pretty partisan statement and shows your true allegiance. You touted yourself as middle of the road but your're obviously a democratic partisan! You just nullified the whole premise of this thread Unfortunately there are alot of voters with a like mindset in the Blue state of Maine!

You know, I thought this thread was just about exercising your right to vote, or not..... now it's looking more and more as though it belongs in a different forum.

I vote for nordic walking sticks.

Molly this thread is demonstrative of the deep divide in politics today and is an example of reality. I know this forum doesn't like to deal with reality much so I guess we should just go back to recipe swapping and what kind of birds landed on the window sill today!

Yup, let's go back to civility - birds, recipes and Nordic Walking Sticks.

Speaking of walking sticks, I saw beautiful sticks at Star's house today and again at a grocery later. They're much nicer than Nordic, much more "Maine."

Agreed, our leaving the Southeast Asian Peninsula resulted in an additional 2 million deaths or more.

I will say that General Petraeus will be favored by the historians every bit as much as Eisenhower or MacArthur. His conduct of the Surge totally reined in the violence in the Triangle this year. There are talks about some 99 year leases for bases now. This will be a good staging platform for future operations in the region.

My fear is that policy will be watered down during the next administration, aided by the Maine contingent in Washington who can't see beyond the next ship for BIW.

I can go to sleep now, I've learned something. I knew there was a reason to not drink that stuff. At least you didn't offer a glass of Kool Aid.

Back to wishing this fiasco was over and looking forward to the time when politics isn't in everything. hahahahaha Black president or female vice - like we're ever going to stop hearing about it.
