Default Snowmobiling in Maine

Any suggestions on towns that are snowmobiling friendly that aren't 2 1/2-3 hrs. from the Portland area. Rangeley and Eustis are great but a bit of a drive. I am looking for some areas with groomed trails that are accesssible to the major ITS trails. Doing some research to relocate and would like to be somewhere not as developed where I am now but still within about an hour or so to Portland, Windham or Gray.

hi mainenative
if you check out www.mesnow.com/Map.html

and click on "trail conditions" and then scroll down to southwestern maine, it will give you info on towns, like alfred, sanford, springvale. also, i believe thier are many local snowmobile clubs, that print the Its trails (riding maps)in the immediate area, many smaller convenience stores have local its maps on the counter.
good luck, i took my son out over the weekend, on local trails and we had a great time!
another good resource, ..are small-engine repair shops, and snowmobile dealers in the area(for local trail maps)

Thank you Brokerman for the information it will be very helpful. It's great that the trails were good for riding this past weekend, finally we have some decent snow accumulation so we can enjoy it.
