The field by our house is close to 1000 yards from route 125 to the woods behind our house and over 1000 yards ( split in two) from Woodside lane (our road) to route 136 in the other direction. They are BIG fields (for Southern Maine). I have a 100 yard target range in my back yard with enough room to expand it to 200 yards if necessary. I was sitting on my deck shooting over the top of my target range backstop so I KNOW the yardage estimate is accurate. Maybe some people can hit a small deer at that distance but 175 yards off hand on a small deer is a long shot for me!

The woods are going to be really crunchy this morning. There is a heavy frost nearly everywhere.
I bush hog snowmobile trails. The time to do it is when all the leaves are off so you can see stumps and rocks. Our club maintains 72 miles of trail. Some are on old logging roads and some are in deep woods that don't need bush hogging. Many miles do need it though and I go out on Sundays so I don't disturb deer hunters.
Did you ever notice that when there are lights and sirens in your neighborhood that everybody goes out to see what's going on? Animals do that too. A bush hog makes quite a racket. Animals will run away from it, but first they just have to take a look. I'll be going down an old road and deer will step out or peek out 75 yards ahead to see what in the world that racket is. Then they run off. It's funny. They even have a funny look as they turn their ears. It's like the first time somebody has a wild party in your neighborhood. You hope it isn't going to become a regular thing. Even a coyote will sometimes take one last look before ducking into the brush.

OMG! that's what my hubby said last night. I told him I heard three shots just before 1:00 a. m. ..poachers taking advantage of the moon.
His exact quote was "three squares and a cot!"

NMLM, which club? Just wondering if I'd ever ridden your trails before?

Good one, NMLM! We've found that the deer will peek when we take the dog on his runs. It's a good way to figure where they are!

Lee Mogul Pounders. They have a landowner supper tonight. It's a pretty good feed.

As bad as this?
- - -
A guy is sitting at the bar just staring at his drink for half an hour, when this big trouble-making biker steps next to him, grabs his drink, gulps it down in one swig and then turns to the guy with a menacing stare as if to say, "What'cha gonna do about it?"
The poor little guy starts crying.
"Come on man I was just giving you a hard time," the biker says. "I didn't think you'd CRY. I can't stand to see a man crying."
"This is the worst day of my life," says the little guy between sobs. "Everything is falling apart. Obama won the election. I overslept and was late to an important meeting, so my boss fired me. When I went to the parking lot, I found my car was stolen, and I don't have any insurance. I left my wallet in the cab I took home. I found my wife in bed with the gardener, and my dog bit me.. so, I came to this bar trying to work up the courage to put an end to my life, and then you show up and drink the poison."
