take 95 south to 495 south then get on interstate 90 west new york thruway. this will take you away from new york city. 90 west will take you as far as cleveland. this will much better roads & less trafic.

We drove to Warren, Ohio for Thanksgiving - 15 hours going out, 19 coming back. Think we'll fly from now on.

A day late and a dollar short, but depending on where in Ohio you are (were) going it might be faster to cut through Canada. I know you can shave 4 or 5 hours off if you cut through Canada to get from Maine to Chicago, so the same probably applies to Ohio.

There's no really direct route to Ohio from Canada except through Michigan. It seems to me that would add time.
